This kit will upgrade Unicenter NSM 3.0 to provide web based Java User Interface functionality which was previously available with prior Unicenter TNG releases. It is provided as a ZIP format file and is available from Computer Associates support upon request. If you have not already done so, it is recommended that you upgrade to Unicenter NSM 3.0 0202 (Click here to place an order.) prior to installing the Unicenter NSM Web Browser Interface Upgrade Kit.

Installation Procedure

  1. Unzip the contents of the upgrade kit zip file into a temporary directory. Be sure that folder names are retained when unzipping the file.

  2. Start the command file InstallWebInterface.bat by either double clicking it from Windows Explorer or from a command prompt window.

  3. The installation procedure will begin and complete installation of the upgrade kit. You may be asked for input at various stages based on your system configuration.

Known Problems

  1. When upgrading a Unicenter NSM 3.0 SP1 or language certification release, the Topology application server, TNG4.EXE, may occasionally deadlock and become unresponsive. A patch to correct this problem should be available at the time of distribution from Customer Support. A temporary solution to this hang condition would be to stop and then start the CA-Unicenter NSM Auxiliary Service by launching the Services manager from Control Panel or Administrative Tools.

  2. Under certain circumstances when launching the Unicenter NSM Web Browser Interface, the application servers may not respond due to system load or other reasons resulting in missing icons on the button bar. This situation can frequently be remedied by stopping and then starting the CA-Unicenter NSM Auxiliary Service. Use the Services manager from the Control Panel or Administrative Tools to do this.

  3. The Discovery Wizard may require that a server based executable program, discwiz.exe, have IIS security explicitly set. There are several security schemes available depending on your operating system version and IIS version. You should select a scheme that allows the application server to start a service. This can be accomplished using the Internet Services Manager to open the properties notebook of the alias path Default Web Site/tngfw/scripts/discwiz.exe and selecting the "File Security" tab then the "Edit..." button under "Anonymous access and authentication control". Deselecting "Anonymous access", clicking the "OK" button then the "Apply" button, in most cases will enable proper operation of the Discovery Wizard. If you have a more complex security environment, you may need to use other settings and/or you may need to configure your web browser to bypass your Internet proxy server.

  4. The Web Browser Interface may be used with the Sun Java Plug-in by selecting the appropriate launch link. If the Sun Java Plug-in is not already installed on your system, then your web browser will try to automatically install it. Automatic Plug-in installation requires Internet access and under some circumstances may be blocked by your proxy server or firewall, even when Internet access is available. In this case it will be necessary to visit the Sun Java web site at http://java.sun.com and manually install the Java Plug-in.

  5. The Web Browser Interface may not be responsive for several minutes while the Unicenter Agent Technology service is initializing on the same system. This condition may occur during system reboot or service restart.

  6. Sporadic unexplainable Java exceptions have been observed on some systems when using the built-in Java Virtual Machine that is provided with Windows 2000. This will result in the failure of the NSM Web Browser Interface to operate correctly. In this case, it is recommended that the Sun Java Plug-in be used.

  7. The NSM Web Browser Interface Upgrade Kit must be reinstalled if you apply Unicenter 3.0 0202 Product Maintenance after you have previously installed the upgrade kit. The NSM Web Browser Interface will not function until you do so.
