Title: Announcing CA-Earl Service Release 6.1
Last Updated: March 13, 2001

CA-Earl Service Release 6.1 is distributed with CA-Unicenter TNG Framework for OS/390 Service Pack 1. If you choose to install this new release of CA-Earl Service, you must perform a base install of FMID=CXE6100 from the CA-Unicenter TNG Framework for OS/390 Service Pack 1 tape.

Below is a list of the enhancements provided with CA-Earl Service Release 6.1:

  • Automatic Reporting of Input and Output Record Counts
CA-Earl 6.1 automatically keeps record counts on both input and output files, and prints the counts on the SYSLST output file along with the hit file and report statistics information.

  • 31-Bit Addressing for Called Modules
Distributed sample programs CALLed from CA-Earl may reside ‘above the line’ (RMODE 31), providing an added convenience when installation-standard common routines must also reside ‘above the line’ for other applications.

  • User-Specified Return Code
In CA-Earl 6.1, the user program may generate a return code upon exit by setting the pre-defined variable EARL_RETURN_CODE to the desired value. This will allow the program to pass control data to subsequent steps in a job stream.

  • Upper Case Only Support for the CA-Earl Compiler Listing
Although CA-Earl 6.1 normally uses mixed case for page headings on the banner and compiler listings, the user may force the use of upper case by specifying a new parameter, CASE=UPPER, at installation time.
Note: Support for CA-Earl Service Release 6.0 for OS/390 will be dropped on December 31, 2001.
