ARCserve Backup is completely integrated with MS Exchange, MS SQL, Oracle and many other leading applications. Major Enhancements include:

• CENTRAL MANAGEMENT Customers have much greater control with highly improved centralized management capabilities allowing them to further reduce time and effort needed to manage their backup environment.

  • Greater Control with centralized job queue for configuration, submission, monitoring and management of all backup jobs running in an environment.
  • Improved Management of backup devices (tape, changer, VTL, etc) in SAN and non-SAN environment with centralized management interface.
  • Higher Operation Efficiency with automated configuration of tape libraries in complex shared SAN environment.
  • Better Control over the entire backup process with centralized reporting, logging and alerting, further simplify management, allowing customers to monitor, report and perform fault investigation from a single console. A number of new canned reports provide a great out of the box experience.

• ENCRYPTION ENHANCEMENTS CA ARCserve Backup r12 will include multiple enhancements to ensure the security and confidentiality of backup data.
  
  
  • FIPS certified AES 256 encryption algorithm will be used for encrypting data.
  • Encryption can be done at multiple points in a backup life cycle either
    
    
    • At agent. This is useful when you want the data to be encrypted before it is transmitted over the wire.
    • At backup server during backup. This is useful when you don't want the costly encryption to happen on your production servers but still want the data to be encrypted.
    • At backup server while migrating data from disk or VTL to tape. This allows backups to disk to be performed without any encryption overhead and hence does not increase the backup window. But when the data is moved from disk to tape, the data is encrypted and encryption happens outside the backup window.
      
      
  • Encryption at backup server is done using either
    
    
    • Encryption enabled tape drives
    • Software encryption if encryption enabled tape drives are not available
      
      
  • Add support for LTO-4 encryption enabled tape drives.
    
    
• VTL ENHANCEMENTS Multiple enhancements in D2D2T backup will allow VTLs to be seamlessly integrated into the D2D2T backup process as well as optimize tape usage.
  
  
• VMWare PROTECTION New agent for VMware will offer multiple innovative capabilities for easier backup and recovery of virtual environments.
  
  
• APPLICATION AND SYSTEM PROTECTION Many new databases, operating systems and application platforms will be supported. Some of them are:
