CA ARCserve Backup for Laptops and Desktops r11.5:

Windows [3.0.3 (int.w32/103)]

Ingres r3 Maintenance Update Install Steps

Windows:

  1. Log on to the machine as the installation owner.

  2. Shut down any non-Ingres application(s) that may be connected to or using any of the files in the specified Ingres instance.

  3. Stop all Ingres processes either manually using the 'ingstop' utility or through the Ingres Visual Manager. You can also use Ingres Service Manager to stop the Ingres service.

  4. Stop Ingres Visual Manager either by issuing the command 'ivm -stop' or by right clicking the IVM icon on the taskbar and choosing the Exit menu option. Check Task Manager to make sure there are no IVM processes still running.

  5. Unzip the downloaded maintenance update file to a previously chosen directory.

  6. Change directory to the directory in step 5.

  7. Determine the instance id of the instance to be patched: Start->Programs->Computer Associates->Ingres [XX] - here the characters inside the braces represent the installation id. You can also determine the id by running 'ingprenv' utility from an Ingres Command Prompt (Start->Programs->Computer Associates->Ingres [XX]->Ingres Command Prompt). The value of II_INSTALLATION in the 'ingprenv' output gives the instance id.

    Then, run the following command:

PatchUpdate.exe /id XX (where XX is the instance id as determined above)

    Example: PatchUpdate.exe /id EI

    Note: PatchUpdate.exe takes several parameters:
    • /id <installation id> will bypass the dialog that allows choosing the installation id of instance to be patched.
    • /id <installation id> /silent will run silent installation on the instance specified via installation id.

  8. Follow the instructions on the screens to complete the patch installation.

  9. Please check the patch.log file in the %II_SYSTEM%\ingres\files directory to make sure there were no problems and that the patch installed successfully. You may also want to check the %II_SYSTEM%\ingres\version.rel to ensure the patch is displayed in it.

  10. If required, restart the Ingres IVM process using 'ivm -start'.

  11. Restart the Ingres instance.
