CA Simplifies Product Names
Beginning January 30, 2007, CA is simplifying its product names. Our intention is to describe our products by what they enable you and your business to accomplish. Some names have already changed; others will change over the next 12-18 months as part of the planned development cycle. There is nothing you need to do. We have established a dedicated site at ca.com/productnames as a resource center where you'll find additional information such as frequently asked questions, customer service numbers, and a list of current product names and former names.

Unicenter® CA-XCOM™ Data Transport® r11 for AS/400 RISC Beta Program
Beta program participants needed!

Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport r11 for AS/400 RISC is a multi-platform, value-added data transport solution, providing high-performance unattended file transfer with complete audit trails and reporting. Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport provides a single solution for sending and receiving files, as well as sending reports and jobs, to the industry's widest range of platforms.

Using TCP/IP or SNA, XCOM will transfer data from machine A to machine B. Data can be delivered from AS400 to z/OS, UNIX to Tandem, and to all the other supported platforms.

System Requirements for the Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport r11 for AS/400 RISC Beta Program:
  • iSeries Server V5R3 or above with PASE environment
  • Installation of TCP/IP and/or SNA as your required protocol(s)
Key features for r11:

SSL Support
The use of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol to create a secure IP connection between Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport partners has been added. The SSL protocol allows for the encryption of the transmitted data as well as the authentication of the partner. OpenSSL will be used for the SSL protocol. The Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport TCP/IP Interface (TXPI) will be enhanced to make calls to OpenSSL for SECSOCKET=*YES. Certificates will need to be used to authenticate the identity of the remote partner.

Enhanced Log Display
The detailed log display in the CA-XCOM history display panels has been enhanced. One can now limit the display of transfers based on certain criteria such as:
  • a certain remote system
  • a specific USERID
  • a given date / time frame
  • a specific return code
Adding/Removing Sequence Numbers
Transfers to other CA-XCOM Data Transport for AS/400 partners now have the possibility of adding/removing sequence numbers through the use of UNIT=*ADDSEQ/*RMVSEQ.

Enhanced Notification
You can now control the level of notification that Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport for AS/400 provides. The options are:
  • ALL - Always notify regardless of whether transfer was successful.
  • WARN - Notify for warnings or errors only.
  • ERROR - Notify only if transfer fails with an error.
Five Digit Port Support
All Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport r11 IP ports can now support up to five digits. The following CA-XCOM AS/400 parameters include this new support:
  • TCPRMTPORT - Specifies the listening port for the Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport partner.
  • TCPLCLPORT - Specifies the listening port for the Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport AS/400.
  • TCPLCSPORT - Specifies the SSL listening port for the Unicenter CA-XCOM Data Transport AS/400.
Custom Code Table Support
Custom code table names are now supported in CA-XCOM for AS/400 used for specifying the translation table to be use by the remote UNIX or Windows r11 partner on a transfer by transfer basis.

Configuration That Will Allow CA-XCOM™ Traffic to Pass Through a Firewall
The reason you can't filter based on an incoming IP number is that it is random. The partner Unicenter® CA-XCOM™ must request a socket from the local machine's IP-stack when sending a transfer. The IP stack will give the next available socket. Unicenter CA-XCOM has no way of predicting which IPPORT and which IPADDRESS comprise that socket. This process is similar to the way many other TCP-based applications function. This Knowledge Base article explains more.

Enhancement to Unicenter® CA-XCOM™ Data Transport® r11 for z/OS Handling
of Archived Data Sets

An enhancement has been made to Unicenter CA-XCOM to allow users to suppress the recall of archived datasets during dynamic allocation calls. APAR QO78488 must be applied. This apar applies to TYPE=SCHEDULE transfers.

Previously, the CA-XCOM server region would wait on IBM's enqueue on SYSZTIOT when archived datasets were specified for a transfer. In certain cases, all type=schedule transfers would wait for this transfer to complete. With this enhancement, the recall processing will now be done outside the CA-XCOM server's region and transfers will not wait. See this Knowledge Base article for more information.

Enhancement for the Queue Status Window for Unicenter® CA-XCOM™
Data Transport® r11 for Windows NT Server and Professional

With APAR QO73491 (r11 0505D) and above, enhancements have been made to viewing and controlling the status of transfers using the Queue Status Window.

Previously, the limit on the maximum of number of transfers that were shown in the Status Window was specified by the xcom.glb parameter MAX_QUEUE_ENTRIES (up to a maximum of 1000 entries). This Knowledge Base article explains more.

Enhancement: New Compression Options Available - ZLIB1 through ZLIB9 for Various Platforms of Unicenter® CA-XCOM™ Data Transport® r3.1 and r11
These new compression options were developed for sites that need increased performance and require high compression with minimum overhead. Examples of the types of files that benefit most from the use of compression are text or report files. Testing is highly recommended since compression may slow down file transfers that use a high speed connection. See this Knowledge Base article for more information.
