Documentation to be Collected for CA VM:Manager™ and All CA VM Products When a
Problem Occurs

Picture this. It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon and you've just finished the yard work. You're settling into your hammock with your favorite icy cold beverage in hand and enjoying the fruits of your labor, planning your next attack on that little patch of crabgrass you just can't seem to get rid of. The kids are laughing and playing. The birds are singing. The bees are... wait, that's not the buzzing of bees.

You realize your serene Saturday is being interrupted by the digital whine from the latest technology connecting you to work. Gee, maybe it's operations calling to tell you everything is running great and thanking you for your good job. That's doubtful - you know it means something 'bad' has happened that you will need to attend to.

You fling on your superman cape and log onto the system expecting the worst. Through emails and phone calls to the operations staff, you find the problem to be a CA VM:Backup job that stopped before completing the production backups.

You restart the job, hoping for the best. It starts and seems to be working OK. You baby-sit the job to make sure it completes. It does. All is right with the world. Well, kind of.
You know you will need to address why the problem occurred in the first place so future outages can be prevented. You don't see anything obvious in the console. You will get CA support involved first thing Monday to see if they can help figure it out.

Monday comes and after working with support, you find out you don't have the documentation necessary for them to research the problem. You agree to collect the documentation requested the next time the problem happens, if the problem happens again.
Now you have a possibility of another outage and another interrupted Saturday afternoon. This coupled with the fact you'll have to deal with this as an open issue in the next status meeting. Your boss doesn't like open issues.

If you knew what documentation CA needed you could have made sure it was captured and the issue might be solved already. At least, CA would have an issue open and be able to research the problem.

No, this information alone doesn't work miracles. It doesn't solve everything. At least you'll be able to report in the status meeting that the problem is in CA's hands and heading toward resolution. That will at least help keep the boss happy. He may even share his secret for taking care of that little crabgrass problem you have. That's one problem CA can't solve for you.
