General Information
Advantage™ VISION:Inquiry® Release 6.5 Title Lines Now Available in
Non-UDO Queries

In previous releases of Advantage VISION:Inquiry, you could not add title lines to
non-user-defined output (UDO) queries. With Advantage™ VISION:Inquiry® Release 6.5 for IMS and Advantage™ VISION:Inquiry® Release 6.5 for CICS, non-UDO queries can include one or two title lines. The title lines appear at the top of each page of the query report.

These title lines can be coded using three different query methods: native Advantage VISION:Inquiry syntax; native SQL syntax; or the Automatic Query Facility (AQF) of Advantage VISION:Inquiry.

The following links take you to articles and sample queries that demonstrate how easily you can include title lines in a non-UDO query using each of the described methods.
  • To learn how to include title lines in a query using native Advantage VISION:Inquiry syntax, click here.

  • To learn how to include title lines in a query using native SQL syntax, click here.

  • To learn how to include title lines in a query using AQF, click here.

Advantage™ VISION:Inform® Release 4.0 Line Editor and Full Screen Editor
Are Now Compatible

Previous releases of Advantage VISION:Inform did not support two-way compatibility between the Line Editor and the Full Screen Editor. When you saved an item with the Full Screen Editor, you couldn't edit it with the Line Editor. With Advantage VISION:Inform Release 4.0, this limitation has been removed. Both editors are now fully compatible.

The Batch Simulator, with its Line Editor, provides you with a method that is fully compatible with the Full Screen Editor for managing queries and their report output. One of the main advantages of the Batch Simulator is that it gives you a backup method for accessing Advantage VISION:Inform queries if the online region (CICS or IMS) is unavailable for any reason.

Using the Full Screen Editor, you can more easily make needed changes to any query in a short period of time. You can also see your changes immediately without having to wait for a batch execution to verify the changes, thereby increasing productivity.

For an example that shows the compatibility of the two editors, click here.

Advantage™ Automated Code Manager - Composite Score Report
Advantage Automated Code Manager for COBOL is an easy-to-use Windows product that assesses the quality of COBOL code, documents control flow, and recodes "spaghetti code" into structured, less-complex programs while maintaining their original functionalities. This product contains three major components: Code Assessment, Code Documentation, and Code Restructuring.

Did you know that the Code Assessment component provides a composite score that helps you establish baseline standards for measuring the quality of your existing applications and allocating resources to projects? It does. In fact, the composite score report provides the decision support that you need to evaluate a single application or an entire application portfolio. It uses objective, precise, scientific measurements by applying industry-standard McCabe and Halstead metrics. This report includes five categories of measurements and 150 different metrics, covering all major areas of COBOL programs.

Advantage™ VISION:Report® Release 16.1 for z/OS - New Sort Specification Options
Many mainframe products' sorting capabilities are restricted to single sort operations per execution of a program. Advantage VISION:Report, however, can initiate your sort to run multiple instances of sort operations simultaneously in a single program.

You can specify the sort options in three different ways: in the installed QJOPTION macro; in the OPTION statement; or in the SORT statement in the Advantage VISION:Report program. The SORT statement is the highest order of precedence, followed by the OPTION statement and, finally, the default in the QJOPTION macro.

Previous releases of Advantage VISION:Report allowed for only a single set of sort options for sort operations in a single program, governed by the QJOPTION macro or the OPTION statement. Release 16.1 allows for the coding of all sort options on each SORT statement in a single program, governed by the precedence described previously. The new sort statement specification option parameters are specified by a two-letter keyword followed by a value.

Click here for details and a sample of the new sort specification options.
