Unicenter® Network and Systems Management r11 Review
According to a recent review in eWeek magazine, CA has taken a "leap forward" with its newest version of Unicenter Network and Systems Management (NSM) r11.1, rating the product as "excellent" in terms of scale and breadth. The review declares Unicenter NSM r11.1 "a power tool" that is well suited to organizations that have a heterogeneous systems environment, including mainframe, Windows, UNIX, and Linux systems, along with a variety of network elements.

Among the new features delivered in this release, eWeek found the new Management Command Center (MCC) to be "one of the most significant advances in the revamped Unicenter NSM." In addition, the review notes, "CA has significantly revised the underpinnings of Unicenter NSM by building the product on a common MDB (Management Database). The MDB provides a single integrated schema for the management data stored by all CA products in the r11 family."

RSII: Reduced Size Installation Image for Unicenter® NSM
The RSII enhancement provides a significant reduction in the size of the Unicenter NSM r11/r11.1 agent installation image, which greatly facilitates easier deployment. This enhancement provides the capability to derive a subset image from the full Unicenter NSM images for Windows r11.1, UNIX (AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris-Sparc) r11, and Linux (Intel) r11 that can then be used to deploy the System, Log, Active Directory (Windows), WMI (Windows), and Systems Performance Agents, with Adaptive Configuration support as appropriate. As an example, in Windows, the installation image size is reduced by approximately 80 percent.

The enhancement supports remote deployment with prepackaged installation response files and the capability for customers to create their own customized response files. RSII also is fully integrated with Unicenter® Software Delivery.

We are pleased to announce that this technology is generally available as a new feature of Unicenter NSM r11.1. You can obtain or update your copy of Unicenter NSM r11.1 with the RSII functionality by contacting your CA representative or by downloading it from SupportConnectSM at Windows, UNIX, or Linux.
