Product Tips for CA ERwin® Modeling Suite
This document discusses how Complete Compare filtering works in r7.x. It covers filtering by type and by instance, how these two kinds of filtering interact with each other, and their effects on performance and memory use. This document was written by one of the developers of Complete Compare, so be sure not to miss it.

Visual Studio Team Edition for Database Professionals (VSDB) delivers a database development product designed to manage database change, improve software quality through database testing, and bring the benefits of Visual Studio Team System and life cycle development to database professionals. The integration of CA ERwin Data Modeler and Visual Studio allows you to use your existing data models and data-modeling tools to streamline the data modeling and schema generation process as follows:

  1. Use your existing CA ERwin DM database designs to jump-start the creation of managed objects in Visual Studio.
  2. Use the design visualization, task automation and advanced modeling features of
CA ERwin DM to fine-tune schemas.
  3. Reuse data models across the IT environment.
This document should help the reader understand the components and the steps required to integrate VSDB and ERwin.

The most common way to add comments and definitions to a model is to do that manually using the editors in AllFusion® ERwin® Data Modeler, which can be time consuming. Another way of adding comments and definitions to a model is to use the API. However the difficulty in using the API is that the user also has to write a program. The functionality of automatically adding comments and definitions to a model has now been captured in an easy to use utility and the purpose of this document is to explain what that utility does, and how you can use it. This document, originally written for 4.1.4, now includes the utility for r7.x and is well worth another look.

It's quite common that an administrator might want to move a Model Manager mart from one database to another for testing purposes. However, there's more involved than just moving the data. This document covers all the bases.

As a result of broad, world-wide adoption of the r11.5 release, we have received a great deal of feedback regarding our display services and have received some suggestions for improvement of these services. We are currently working on implementing some of these improvements and plan on having these available as a PTF after our next service pack. For the full article, please visit:
