End of Service Announcement for CA Database Management Solutions r11.0 for IMS for z/OS
To: CA Database Management for IMS Customers
From: The CA Database Management for IMS Product Team
Subject: End of Service Announcement for CA Database Management r11.0 for IMS and Stabilization of Unicenter DC Monitor Extensions

CA is continually working to improve our software and services to best meet the needs of our customers. As part of this ongoing effort support for older releases is discontinued. This will allow our Development organization to effectively focus its resources on and add value to the newer and upcoming releases of the CA Database Solutions for IMS. End of Service means that support for CA Database Management r11.0 for IMS products will be discontinued beginning on April 30, 2009. The CA Database Management for IMS solution is comprised of the following r11.0 products:

  • Unicenter® Database Analyzer® for IMS
  • Unicenter® Database Copier™ for IMS
  • Unicenter® Database Organizer™ for IMS
  • Unicenter® DC Monitor Extensions
  • Unicenter® High Performance Recovery
  • Unicenter® Secondary Index
  • Unicenter® Secondary Index Builder

We have also discovered that while the Unicenter DC Monitor Extensions product still provides useful functions to some customers, its value to most customers and prospective customers in the market has declined significantly over the past few years. Therefore, we are announcing that all supported releases of Unicenter DC Monitor Extensions will be functionally stabilized on April 30, 2008. Functionally stabilizing a product means that there will be no new releases or further enhancements to this product. However, maintenance and support for release r11.6 of this product will continue in accordance with your active maintenance contract.

At this time, we encourage you to plan for the migration to CA Database Management for IMS r11.6 as soon as possible so you can take full advantage of the latest new features and enhancements this release has to offer. CA Database Management r11.6 for IMS is Generally Available and contains all the enhancements in the r11.5 release with the addition of support for IMS v10. For additional information on CA Database Management for IMS, please visit the CA Database Management for IMS product pages at CA Support Online (support.ca.com).

As CA would like to help make your upgrade to CA Database Management for IMS r11.6 as straightforward and successful as possible, we are offering the following:

  • A no-charge software upgrade from CA Database Management for IMS r11.0 to CA Database Management for IMS r11.6 for any customer with an active maintenance contract.
  • CA Services is available to provide consulting services for any or all parts of the upgrade, including analysis of the current system, preparation for the upgrade, testing, and performing the upgrade itself. Please call 800-225-5224 (North America) or
    +1 303-262-8300 (International).
  • CA is committed to providing superior support to our customers using our technology solutions. Extended Support, a Business Critical Custom Option is designed to extend support for CA products and releases that have been officially discontinued or reached their End of Service Date. Please visit our website, CA Support Online (support.ca.com), for more information.

Are you Running z/OS 1.6 or Older and Using Insight™ for DB2, r11.5 SP1, or Newer?
If so, then you must apply PTF UDBD102 to avoid an S0C4 ABEND that may occur in the exception processor. This ABEND will bring down the Data Collector, and the only way to restart it is to restart it without the Exception Processor (SYSPARM EXCEPTION-PROCESSOR=NO). This ABEND occurs because SP1 contained support for DB2 Version 9, and this support contains instructions to process fields in the MVS ASSB control block associated with ZIIP engines. At z/OS 1.6 and earlier, these fields do not exist.
