About Our New Beta Program Page
All sites that are chosen by our development staff to be a beta site will be granted access to our new Advantage Repository for z/OS and OS/390 Release 4.0 Beta Program page. This page is a centralized source for all beta materials, including all updated 4.0 manuals and a "Solutions and Patches" area where all relevant patches will be downloadable.

Major Enhancements

  • Separate User Interface From Process.
The major functions of the IO module have been replaced. The new APIs consists of DB2 stored procedures that are now callable from any platform. The Existing IO module now calls the stored procedures; customers who wrote applications that called the IO module can continue to do so.
  • Single Repository Creator.
Multiple copies of the repository can now reside in a single DB2 subsystem.
  • Increased Number of Versions.
Version has been converted from two characters to a small integer increasing the number of versions from 3100 to 32767.
  • Single Length for Attributes Defined as Name.
All attributes defined as Name are now defined as VARCHAR(245). Performance improvements will be seen when joining tables on the attributes defined as Name.
  • SMPE Installation.
The installation process for the repository will now use SMPE.
  • IMS Conversion for XDFLD Associations.
Three associations (DDATA, SUBSEQ, and SRCH) in the IMS model have been converted to relationships in order to store sequence numbers. The DBD scanner and generator now generate these fields in sequence instead of random order.
  • New Data Set Prefix.
The repository data sets can be prefixed with any valid data set name up to 35 characters. The two-node prefix standard has been eliminated.

General Information

Considerations for Upgrading with Extensions

The Advantage™ Repository for z/OS and OS/390 provides a fully extensible, customizable meta model and command interface to facilitate your organization's meta data requirements. Be aware that when you upgrade your repository, you are responsible for applying any changes that were made to maps supplied by Computer Associates.

For example, let’s assume that you created map 9204 to replace the supplied map 204. As a part of the upgrade process, attribute XYZ is added to map 204 (this information will be noted in the PIB packet). You are responsible for adding attribute XYZ to your map 9204; this means that you must do a PROCESS.RECREATE to add the appropriate new column to the underlying table. Note that you should do this before you perform the upgrade - otherwise, you may receive unexpected bind errors.
