Repository/MVS Product Group!

As we continue to advance and expand our industry-leading portfolio of eBusiness solutions, we at CA recognize that in addition to maintaining the highest standards of software quality, reliability, and usability, we also have to keep our product lines simple and focused. We want to take a moment to explain the exciting transition we are undertaking. We have introduced several brand families. Those new names will be incorporated into all CA product names going forward.

Our branding strategy is intended to keep our solutions of high quality and focused on meeting your business challenges. CA will continue to provide comprehensive solutions in both Enterprise Management and Information Management and our products will be grouped as follows:

Jasmine® is the family for CA�s object-oriented solutions

The PLATINUM® Repository products are now part of the Advantage brand family of products and will be renamed so that they can be more clearly identified.

In the coming months, you will see the new names appearing on our Web pages and published materials reflecting our new branding. We are committed to offering you high-quality, comprehensive business solutions and are just as committed to ensuring that we keep this process as smooth as possible. Service Pack 2 Genlevel 0111 for Advantage Repository for z/OS and OS/390 is now GA! For more information on updates, visit the Advantage Repository for z/OS and OS/390 page on the CA support website.

Advantage™ Repository Exchange for DB2 Release 7.1 in Beta

New features and enhancements in the DB2 Release 7.1 interface are as follows:

Advantage™ Repository Exchange for ERwin® Release 4.0 in Development

New features and enhancements in the Advantage™ Repository Exchange for ERwin® Release 4.0 interface are as follows:

Support for Repository Import of Advantage Repository Exchange for ERwin 4.0 data
SSupport for the following Target Database types: DB2, UDB, Oracle, Teradata, Sybase, MS SQL Server, Tandem NonStop SQL, and Informix
Ability to control the type of data loaded into the Repository by object and/or by attribute
Support reuse of objects within the Repository
Ability to recognize a rename of an object

Advantage™ Repository Exchange for Oracle Release 8.x in Beta

New features and enhancements in Oracle Release 8.x interface are as follows:

Friendly Graphical User Interface for candidate selection of Oracle 8.x objects to be extracted
Batch Interface
Ability to scan at the Database, Table space, Schema, Table, View, Sequence, Database procedure, or Function level
Improved performance

QREC Facility and REC MAP Sequence Fields

The Quick Record (QREC) facility of the Repository provides the knowledgeable customer with the ability to quickly change a number of records with as little impact as possible. In order to perform as fast as possible, QREC will process changes to records without reviewing the overall REC MAP Sequence of the records. If customers are making changes that may invalidate the REC MAP Sequence fields, they should follow up the QREC process with the steps below to resynchronize the sequence fields.

The sequential integrity is easily restored on the REC MAP by performing the following two commands:

EDIT.CHGSCR.RESEQ

EDIT.SYNC

The "EDIT.SYNC" command will consider the entire RECORD structure for processing.

Optionally, as an alternative to the EDIT.SYNC command, the customer could issue an "EDIT.UPDATE" command after 'S'electing the affected ROWS within the REC MAP. "EDIT.UPDATE" will only process the individual ROWS that you have 'S'elected. "EDIT.UPDATE" will, for this reason, usually run much faster than "EDIT.SYNC".

QREC is not intended to be a complete replacement for the standard RECORD editing process provided within the Repository. It is provided as an optional tool for editing repository information.

Advantage™ Repository for z/OS and OS/390

It's important that CA customers have every opportunity to maximize on their current software investment, so, each month, we conduct a series of interactive webcast seminars called "Technology Updates." Hosted by senior CA technical staff, these one-hour sessions provide you with the latest release functionality and future plans for the CA solutions you currently use.

This informative technology update webcast on Advantage Repository for z/OS and OS/390 (formerly known as PLATINUM® Repository/MVS) will focus on new and updated features in Release 3.8 such as DB2 7.1 support and Oracle Candidate Selection. We will also discuss the changes coming in future releases such as 4.0 and the new open API. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the webcast so that you can talk directly to our developers.
