HFS Scan Performance Improvements
The Unicenter® NeuMICS® DASD Space Collector can collect data on UNIX file structures. The performance of this feature of the product is improved significantly by a new product change, VCC6370 (PTF QO70834). It eliminates a long delay between initialization and the start of the first subtask and improves the performance of the data collection subtasks themselves. We recommend running HFS data collection only under z/OS 1.5 or higher.

IBM System z9 Alert!
IBM's newest processor, the System z9, became available on September 16, 2005. With the z9, IBM changed the way PR/SM manages individual processor pools. Previously, all zSeries and earlier servers managed only two separate processor pools: the general processor pool and the "special" processor pool, which included ICFs, IFLs, and IFAs (zAAPs). With the z9, PR/SM now manages and reports on four separate processor pools, one for each processor type. As a result, the information contained in the RMF type 70 subtype 1 CPU Activity record, used by the NeuMICS® SCP and Hardware (RMF) Analyzer, has changed.

If you currently have - or are planning to upgrade to - an IBM System z9 server, contact Computer Associates Customer Support to request System z9 support. Without this support, the RMF Analyzer ignores individual processor statistics from IFL and IFA (zAAP) processors.

Unicenter® NeuMICS® Documentation is now on the Web
You can now download all the Unicenter NeuMICS guides in HTML format from SupportConnectSM. To do this, log onto SupportConnect and click Documentation under Downloads in the left pane. When prompted, select Unicenter NeuMICS Resource Management. You will see a ZIP file on which you can click. After opening the ZIP file, you will see a TXT file called "DownloadInstructions". It lists the steps you can take to download the documentation to your PC.

Note: The Unicenter NeuMICS documentation available through SupportConnect reflects the current product level and a default configuration. It does not contain the detailed descriptions of the data elements. To see documentation customized to your product level and configuration, use the NeuMICS MWF Document Access feature at your site.

General Information
Velocity Software's ESAMON and Unicenter® NeuMICS®
Did you know the Unicenter NeuMICS Resource Management Analyzer Option for VM and CMS can process monitor history records from Velocity Software's ESAMON?

The VM monitor records extracted by Velocity Software's ESAMON product have the same format and content as the standard monitor records collected by IBM's VM supplied MONWRITE utility. Additionally, ESAMON can extract monitor data at longer intervals than the set Monitor interval, substantially reducing DASD space requirements. This allows the Monitor interval to be set to a small value for effective real-time monitoring, without using large amounts of DASD space for data logging. To learn more about Velocity Software, visit the Velocity Software webpage.

When you get a medical checkup, your body functions, such as your pulse, temperature, and blood pressure, are tested. If any of these give abnormal results, your physician will request detailed tests to monitor that system more closely. By identifying problems early you can prevent a health crisis, live longer, and maintain an active life-style. Learn how a mainframe checkup can help prevent a performance crisis, delay systems upgrades, and maintain service levels.
