GA Announcement
CA NetMaster® Network Management for TCP/IP r11.5 Now Supports zIIP Exploitation.

As highlighted in several recent press releases, CA NetMaster Network Management for TCP/IP can now offload all of its packet analysis processing onto an IBM System z9 Integrated Information Processor (zIIP). This allows your organization to maximize the business value of this specialty engine and control costs associated with running
CA NetMaster. If you would like to take advantage of this feature, you need to apply APAR NZ34500.

General Information
Administering SmartTrace
Packet tracing is a valuable tool for network diagnostics. Until now, however, the mainframe has lacked a simple, easy, and flexible tool to trace packets.

CA NetMaster® Network Management for TCP/IP r11.5 introduced SmartTrace to remove the complexity and limitations associated with z/OS packet tracing. SmartTrace lets you trace packets easily, without difficult administration. SmartTrace gathers the data you want and lets you extract the data where it is needed.

With the SmartTrace component, CA NetMaster leads the way in IP network diagnostics on the mainframe.

SmartTrace - Interpreting Traces
This SmartTrace - Interpreting Traces article focuses on interpreting packet traces captured with SmartTrace and provides some tips about what to look for when reviewing packet traces. The article explains the relationship between the data captured by a packet trace and the data gathered by the Packet Analyzer, which appears on the Connection Information display. It also explains the data gathered through SNMP, which appears on the Connection Detail display.
