Product News
Unicenter® Network and Systems Management NetMaster™ Option
The Unicenter® NetMaster™ product team is proud to announce the General Availability of Unicenter Network and Systems Management (Unicenter NSM) NetMaster Option r11. Unicenter NSM NetMaster Option provides visibility and manageability of mainframe network events and resources from the Unicenter® NSM management platform, thereby supporting CA's Enterprise IT Management (EITM) strategy.

In this release, the following enhancements are provided:
  • IP monitoring has been expanded to include additional resources that need to be monitored; they include Dynamic VIPA, Cisco CIP Router, and IP Node resources. These resources can be included in Business Process Views and Unicenter® 2D maps. You can then drill down to perform diagnostic functions and to view detailed performance information.
  • IP and file transfer resources can now be viewed together based on the system image hierarchy, thus simplifying the collective monitoring of these objects.
  • Users can now access ReportCenter reports directly through the Unicenter NSM NetMaster Option in r11, simplifying user access to a tool that is often used for trend analysis, capacity planning, and researching past performance data to assist in problem diagnosis.
You can take a closer look at the features available by reviewing the "Introducing the Unicenter NSM NetMaster Option" article on the Unicenter NSM NetMaster Option. Unicenter NSM NetMaster Option is a key component in our end-to-end network and systems management strategy, as shown in the diagram that appears in the technical document, "Unicenter NSM NetMaster Option r11 Features and Benefits".

General Information
Unicenter® NetMaster™ Network Management r11 SP1 and
Unicenter® Service Desk r11

Unicenter NetMaster r11 SP1 can forward NetMaster alerts either automatically or manually as trouble tickets to Unicenter Service Desk. This allows Service Desk to act as a centralized notification and control service for both distributed and mainframe (NetMaster) events. Trouble ticketing and alert forwarding of NetMaster alerts to Unicenter Service Desk allow a proactive, business-driven, or "Service Aware", approach to incident escalation and web service management.

Providing NetMaster™ DUMP Information
On occasion, some NetMaster problems may require in-depth diagnosis. A running NetMaster may contain the clues that can help our support organization with problem determination. To that end, support may ask for a DUMP of a running NetMaster. A DUMP of NetMaster can provide a wealth of information but only if the DUMP provided was done properly.

See "Providing NetMaster Dump Information" for tips about how to provide all the information required by support personnel.

MVS Consoles and NetMaster™
What Does NetMaster Use MVS Consoles For?

NetMaster uses MVS consoles for only one purpose. That purpose is to issue a command to the operating system and to read the responses to the command - and to read only the responses to the command that was issued. NetMaster does not use consoles to read messages issued by the operating system that were not specifically solicited by a command from a NetMaster region.

The commands may be executed by a NetMaster background user ID or by any user logged on to a NetMaster region.

See "MVS Consoles and NetMaster" for more information.
