Advantage™ Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database and Advantage™ OpenROAD® Projects are Award Finalists
At the UK's recent IM2003 Awards, two Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database and Advantage OpenROAD projects were finalists.

The Pesticide Safety Directorate (PSD) Digital Signatures project was a contender in two categories: B2B Commerce Project and the Premier Project Award. The latter award is for the project that the judges consider the best information management project of the year and carries enormous prestige.

TNT UK was also a finalist in the B2B Commerce Project category for its use of the Advantage™ OpenROAD® Application Server. This company implemented a new system that allows its customers to track consignments on the Internet or even via SMS messaging. A success story for this project is currently being written and will be posted to ca.com/success very soon.

Congratulations to both PSD and TNT for reaching the finals. About 1,800 projects were reviewed by the judges before they drew up the list of finalists, so it is a tremendous achievement for all concerned.

Croydon Uses Advantage™ Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database for Parking System
The London Borough of Croydon has found that Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database is just the ticket when dealing with parking violations. Responsibility for handling parking offenders now rests with local councils rather than the police and systems had to be put in place to deal with them. Finding no suitable off-the-shelf solution, Croydon (London's largest borough) chose to build an application using Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database. This has proved so successful that additional systems have also been built using Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database to support other activities, including control of residents' parking permits and bus lane violations.

Using Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database to keep traffic moving in Croydon is a success story.

Comparing VMS Clustered Ingres II 2.0 Performance to Stand-Alone Installations
When running Ingres II 2.0 (now known as Advantage™ Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database) as a clustered installation configuration, additional processing is required. As a result, this type of installation can't match the performance that can be achieved in a
stand-alone installation.

A technical document (TEC293552) is now available that describes in detail why this is the case and offers an alternative if you chose the clustered option.
