General Information
Using JBoss Application Server With Advantage™ Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database

Configuring Security in Advantage™ Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database
Since Release 2.5, Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database has supported two types of security mechanisms: its own internal security systems; and external or third-party security systems, including Kerberos.

Kerberos, which was developed at MIT, provides user authentication as well as secure data encryption. Prior to its development, security depended largely on roles, groups and password settings, and was built around operating system capabilities.

A technical document (TEC317141) is now available that describes the security mechanisms currently available in Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database and how you can configure them.

Dragging and Dropping Values From a TableField to a ListviewField in Advantage™ OpenROAD® Development Release 4.1
A new technical document (TEC318545) shows how to use drag-and-drop functionality to move values from a TableField to a ListviewField in Advantage OpenROAD Development Release 4.1.

Advantage™ Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database Online Checkpoints
The Advantage Ingres Enterprise Relational Database checkpoint program (ckpdb) uses the tar command to back up data files. If the tar command fails for some reason, it returns with a return code different than 0, and the checkpoint is marked as invalid.

This technical document (TEC317591) provides more information about online checkpoints.

Leveraging Advantage™ Enterprise Access
Advantage Enterprise Access is a middleware solution that provides data integration and flexible access to information resources that might reside in a variety of database sources across a range of platforms. It offers a uniform interface for Advantage™ OpenROAD® Development, Advantage™ Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database OpenAPI and embedded SQL applications that access relational data sources (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2 UDB, Sybase, Oracle Rdb, and Informix), as well as the nonrelational data source, VMS RMS. Applications that use Advantage Enterprise Access must be written to the OpenSQL standard for maximum application portability among different data sources.

Further information is available in this technical document (TEC318018).

How to Center Called Frames in Advantage™ OpenROAD® Development Release 4.1
If you want to center the called frame over the calling frame in Advantage OpenROAD Development Release 4.1, this technical document (TEC318529) shows you how to do it.

DMF Group Buffers
Each Data Manipulation Facility (DMF) page cache has a set of multipage or group buffers, which are most often used for sequential read-ahead processing or multipage updating of a block of pages within a table. Underconfiguration of group buffers can lead to increased disk IO and greater CPU usage, which might degrade performance.

For more information about DMF group buffers, please read this technical document (TEC318086).
