Advantage™ CA-IDMS®/DB Database r16 Service Pack 4
We are pleased to announce Advantage CA-IDMS/DB Database r16 Service Pack 4 will be available for ordering by the end of July. Advantage CA-IDMS r16 Service Pack 4 offers features that are designed to improve availability by reducing outage time and to enable compliance reporting by the user.

Highlights of Advantage CA-IDMS/DB Database r16 Service Pack 4 include the following:

  • A new "Express" Reorg utility for z/OS that reduces the elapsed time to perform an unload/reload of an Advantage CA-IDMS database. This utility is designed for improved 24 x 7 availability by dramatically reducing the outage time for a database reorganization.
  • The addition of the user ID field in the journal BGIN record. This feature is in response to customer requests for enhanced compliance reporting. IDMS JREPORT 008 and Advantage CA-IDMS Journal Analyzer Chronological Event Report have been updated to display the user ID. A new JREPORT 009 is also provided to report the user ID, transaction ID, and program name.

You can read CA's press release for Advantage CA-IDMS at NEW RELEASES OF CA MAINFRAME DATABASE SOLUTIONS.

In North America, you can obtain your copy of Advantage CA-IDMS/DB Database r16 Service Pack 4 by calling 1-800-841-8743 or contacting your local CA representative. If you are outside North America, call your local account representative or the local CA office.

CA Responds to Gartner Report
In August 2005, Gartner, Inc., published a research paper that essentially recommended organizations make plans to migrate off Advantage™ CA-IDMS® and other "pre-relational" systems within five years. Unfortunately, the author did not reflect CA's plans and commitment to this market. As a result, we believe that the research paper may be misleading to you.

Gartner gets a lot of attention in the marketplace, and we believe it's important to ensure that you understand the whole picture and are not misled.

CA has written a response to this Gartner report that we would be happy to share with you and your management team. If you would like a copy of CA's response to the Gartner report, please contact Greg Beedy, Director of Product Management for Advantage CA-IDMS, at greg.beedy@ca.com.
