Cost-Benefit Analysis of DBMS Migrations

Seeking Development Buddies for CA IDMS™ Hibernate Dialect
As part of the CA IDMS modernization strategy, the CA IDMS development labs have an active research project to develop a CA IDMS Hibernate dialect for use with CA IDMS Server. Hibernate is open-source software that reduces Java application development costs by providing the ability to map an object model’s data representation to a relational data model and its corresponding database schema.

The CA IDMS dialect will enable Java developers with limited knowledge of SQL, JDBC, or IDMS to use Hibernate along with the CA IDMS Server JDBC driver to develop Java applications quickly that access CA IDMS.

If you are interested in testing out the CA IDMS Hibernate dialect as a development buddy, please complete the Development Buddy application. Be sure to select CA IDMS from the product list and enter that you are interested in the Development Buddy program for the
CA IDMS Hibernate dialect.

The Hibernate website provides detailed information about using Hibernate and its benefits.

CA IDMS™ Product Enhancement Ballot
Members of the CA IDMS Product Line Community (also known as the IUA and EIUA) are invited to vote on a ballot of recently submitted CA IDMS customer enhancement requests (also known as DARs).

Only members registered on the PLC IDMS user community site can vote on the ballot of enhancement requests using CA's voting tool. If you are a currently registered member of the CA IDMS PLC, then you should have already received an email with a link to the ballot.

If you are not a member of the CA IDMS PLC, it is easy to join. To join the CA IDMS PLC, click Join PLC IDMS or visit causergroups.ca.com and complete the brief online registration form. You can direct any problems or issues joining the PLC to customerprograms@ca.com. After you are successfully registered, you will get an email with a link to the ballot.

The CA IDMS PLC enables CA IDMS customers to be part of a network of peers without geographical and physical limitations. If there is only one reason for you to join the PLC, it is to be able to provide one unified voice for product enhancements. The number of registered PLC members also helps drive funding for IUA and EIUA sponsored activities.

The CA IDMS development organization values the input from the CA IDMS PLC and uses the ballot results to help prioritize features for future releases of CA IDMS.

The ballot closes on February 8, 2008. Plan now to join the CA IDMS PLC and cast your vote.
