eTrust™ CA-ACF2® Security for z/OS and OS/390 Release 6.5
Announced in February 2003, the general availability of eTrust CA-ACF2 Security for z/OS and OS/390 (eTrust CA-ACF2) Release 6.5 builds upon the foundation of eTrust CA-ACF2 Security for z/OS and OS/390 Release 6.4. In addition, it provides functionality that extends many of the features found in eTrust CA-ACF2 Release 6.4. Enhancements were implemented for cross-platform and cross-system support using eTrust™ LDAP Directory Services, which allows the synchronization of eTrust CA-ACF2 security information with information maintained outside of eTrust CA-ACF2. This can be accomplished provided that the information maintained outside of eTrust CA-ACF2 is accessible through LDAP-compliant directory servers.

eTrust CA-ACF2 Release 6.5 includes administrative enhancements, such as a new dynamic compile option for access and resource rule sets, a new operational control for CA SAF HFS initialization, logon ID expiration warning message, and more. Technical enhancements include the new GSO STC (Started Task) record, which provides additional flexibility and control over the logon IDs that are used by started tasks. The CICS interface was enhanced in numerous ways; a new MULTSIGN feature was introduced to allow selected logon IDs to have multiple sessions in the same CICS region. A number of messages have been enhanced, and installation and product packaging are greatly simplified. Changes to CPF and Digital Certificate Administration, the Rule Cleanup Utility, and more are also provided in this release.

Visit our SupportConnect website at supportconnectw.ca.com/public/ca-acf2/infodocs/acf2os39065.asp for more information contained in the eTrust CA-ACF2 Security for z/OS and OS/390 Release 6.5 Product Announcement and Product Information Bulletin. You will also find information on how to place an order.

eTrust™ PAM Client for Linux/390 Beta
The eTrust™ CA-ACF2® Security for z/OS and OS/390 and eTrust™ CA-Top Secret® Security for z/OS and OS/390 Research and Development teams are currently seeking customers to participate in the eTrust PAM Client for Linux/390 Release 1.0 beta program.

The eTrust PAM Client for Linux/390 (PAM - Pluggable Authentication Module) is a flexible, open-source architecture for user authentication and resource checking on Linux systems. eTrust PAM Client support allows eTrust CA-ACF2 Security for z/OS and OS/390 and eTrust CA-Top Secret Security for z/OS and OS/390 to act as an authentication server for one or more Linux systems, eliminating the need for redundant security administration on a system-by-system basis.

The eTrust PAM Client installs and runs on the Linux/390 machine. The client communicates to the eTrust PAM Server distributed with eTrust CA-ACF2 and eTrust CA-Top Secret using TCP/IP. This connection can be established using SSL to encrypt all data.

The eTrust PAM Client can be configured to add/modify the user's Linux information - UID, GID, Name, and password - that is stored in the /etc/password file by extracting this information from eTrust CA-ACF2 or eTrust CA-Top Secret. Using this feature allows the user to be validated locally to gain access to the machine when, and if, a session cannot be established with the eTrust PAM Server.

As a member of the beta program, you will work directly with eTrust CA-ACF2 or eTrust
CA-Top Secret Research and Development team to investigate and resolve any reported problems, questions, or comments. You are also encouraged to join the beta program teleconference calls. Through weekly teleconferences, you will be briefed by the Research and Development team and have the opportunity to share your experience with other beta program participants.

For more information on the features of the eTrust PAM Client for Linux/390 or to participate in the beta program, please email Claudia Fischer at claudia.fischer@ca.com.

eTrust™ Security Command Center v1.0
Continuing the eTrust focus on Security Management, the eTrust Security Command Center has gained credibility and traction during the product's beta cycle. In response to the last newsletter, several customers have contacted us and have affirmed the "security information overload" problem that eTrust Security Command Center addresses: enterprises are exposed to a flood of security data from diverse, non-compatible sources and need tools to monitor, correlate, and prioritize security information and, most importantly, to use this knowledge for remediation and risk management. Ultimately, Security Management is a management issue and we understand that at CA. The eTrust Security Command Center is built on key technologies, including our Event Management, Portal, Data Management, State Monitoring, Correlation Engines and more, with both security and management firmly in mind.

As a reminder, the eTrust Security Command Center is currently in the final stages of its beta program and will be available as a product summer 2003. Beta programs are one of the most important tools we have to make sure that products meet real customer needs. They must be as ready for the real world as possible when they eventually go to market and the beta team has a few spots left for qualified beta customers. If you think your site would make a good beta site for the eTrust Security Command Center, please fill out the beta application at: ca.com/solutions/security/security_center.

Let the eTrust Security Command Center be your central console for consolidating security data, sorting it, prioritizing it, and letting you manage enterprise-wide security.

As a final note, the eTrust Security Command Center is built on the solid data centralization and reduction capabilities of CA's eTrust™ Audit. With the Service Pack 2 release of eTrust Audit in February, eTrust Audit now supports more than 70 CA and non-CA technologies. This number will drastically increase in the months to come. As part of the beta program, you will experience and facilitate this rapid growth in breadth and depth of coverage.

Product Updates
eTrust™ CA-Top Secret® Security for VM Release 1.5
Are you planning your migration to the newest release of eTrust CA-Top Secret Security for VM Release 1.5? Here is a brief reminder of enhancements currently available in this release:

eTrust CA-Top Secret Security for VM Release 1.5 operates on VM/ESA 2.4.0 and all releases of z/VM. A significant administrative enhancement is the introduction of 2-byte resource classes within the Resource Descriptor Table (RDT). This allows for an additional 256 resource classes. Sixty-four of the new resource classes have been set aside for your use. The new resource classes support masking and have an ownership of up to 26 bytes long.
eTrust CA-Top Secret Security for VM Release 1.5 now enables users to share a Security File with eTrust CA-Top Secret for z/OS and OS/390 Release 5.2 using the new Security File format. Additionally, the Security File capacity provides installations with the capability to define in excess of 3 million ACIDs to a Security File.

Other administrative and technical enhancements include:
  • TSS WHOHAS command
  • Reason for Suspension
  • MULTIPW Support
  • Expanded RACROUTE Support
  • CA License Key Management Program
For further information on these features and others, please refer to the eTrust CA-Top Secret Security for VM Release 1.5 Product Announcement located at: supportconnectw.ca.com/public/ca-topsecret/infodocs/topsecvm15.asp.

Enhancements to the Security Integrator With eTrust™ LDAP Server Release 3.0
The Security Integrator is a stand-alone daemon that runs in the UNIX Systems Services (USS) environment on z/OS and OS/390, independent of the eTrust™ LDAP Server for z/OS and OS/390. This daemon allows applications from a Windows platform to issue calls to eTrust™ CA-ACF2 Security for z/OS and OS/390 (eTrust CA-ACF2) or eTrust™ CA-Top Secret Security for z/OS and OS/390 (eTrust CA-Top Secret) for data set and resource validation, as well as user ID/password authentication. This allows eTrust CA-ACF2 or eTrust CA-Top Secret to extend to the Windows platform and perform authentication and authorization checks without running the eTrust LDAP Server. For more information, see Chapter 7 in the eTrust LDAP Server for z/OS and OS/390 Getting Started guide located at: supportconnectw.ca.com/public/ldap_server/ldapos390supp.asp.

In eTrust LDAP Server Release 3.0, the Security Integrator daemon has been enhanced to maintain the connection with the calling application. Maintaining persistent connections reduces the overhead of establishing SSL connections with the daemon. The Security Integrator Console Command capability introduces the ability to dynamically modify runtime options including tracing. Additionally, authentication and performance enhancements have been added.

For further information on enhancements and participation in the eTrust LDAP Server for z/OS and OS/390 beta program, please visit CA's Support website at: supportconnectw.ca.com/public/ldap_server/infodocs/et_ldap_30beta.asp.
