Product Updates

Unicenter® Desktop and Server Management r11.2 C1
The Unicenter Desktop and Server Management (DSM) team is pleased to announce the availability of the first cumulative patch (C1) for DSM r11.2 and DSM r11.2a.

The C1 patch is available in the following forms:

  • DSM r11.2 C1 Linux Install Update: QO88589
  • DSM r11.2 C1 MasterImage Update: QO88588
  • DSM r11.2 C1 Windows Install Update: QO88587

These patches are available from SupportConnectSM under Published Solutions. For quick access, use the links above.

What's New in Unicenter Desktop and Server Management r11.2 C1:

C1 contains numerous general fixes which are detailed in the patches listed above. In addition, C1 brings you the following new features:

Asset Collector - Expands the source of asset inventory information beyond that discovered by the Unicenter DSM agent by reading XML data provided from external systems. Unicenter DSM displays these assets side-by-side with assets it has discovered through its own management agent, and tracks the origin and trustworthiness of the inventory data.

CA Asset Converter for Microsoft SMS - Allows assets that are managed by Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 to be displayed alongside assets that are managed with the CA Asset Inventory Manager console providing a unified view of all enterprise resources. Using the Asset Converter for Microsoft SMS, SMS assets appear just like other assets in the environment, allowing them to be part of management policies, reports and more. In addition, because the SMS assets are part of the CA MDB, they can be used with other solutions including Unicenter® Service Desk, Unicenter® Asset Portfolio Management and Unicenter® Asset Intelligence. Please visit the CA web site product page and also access the Product Brief.

Operating System Installation Management (OSIM)
– OSIM has been enhanced by the following features:

  • Added client support for Windows XP and 2003 64bit operating systems
  • Added client support for Windows 2003 R2 (32bit and 64bit)
  • Added client support for Windows Vista (32bit and 64bit)
  • Added support for boot images based on Win PE 2005 64bit
  • Added support for boot images based on Windows PE 2.0 (32bit and 64bit)
  • Added support of Ghost32 (NTFS) together with WinPE (32bit) for Windows 2000, XP and 2003
  • Added support for automated plug&play driver installation

Reporter Performance Enhancements: C1 primarily provides improved Unicenter DSM Reporter performance when reporting on Software Delivery related information. Reporting of information from data sources based on the Reporter RDS functionality has also been improved.

CA Mobile Device Management (CA MDM)
CA is pleased to announce CA Mobile Device Management (CA MDM), an innovative enterprise-class solution for managing BlackBerry smartphones from Research In Motion (RIM). By providing corporate IT organizations with expanded management capabilities and device-user self-service functionality, CA MDM substantially mitigates security and compliance risks associated with these devices - while also reducing total cost of ownership.

CA MDM simplifies the provisioning and ongoing management of mobile devices via existing over-the-air connections without placing agents on any devices. It features a configurable self-service portal for end-users that empowers them to rapidly register their devices, manage their passwords, and address common problems without the assistance of corporate help-desk personnel. It also provides a Web-based console that unifies all core management tasks-including security management, asset inventory, configuration management, policy compliance, and reporting-for all devices across the enterprise.

Other key features of CA MDM include:

  • Leverages BlackBerry Enterprise Server IT policies to deliver over-the-air (OTA) management from a web-based interface, including device lock/unlock and data wipe to prevent access to data on lost or stolen devices
  • Automated role-based device security and configuration enforcement and lifecycle management leveraging Active Directory data
  • Automatic disabling of devices upon employee termination
  • Customizable workflow for approvals, escalations, event management, and support processes
  • A Bulk Addition feature that enables administrators to quickly roll out large numbers of devices
  • Highly scalable, CA MDM can auto-discover thousands of devices in just a few hours

CA MDM can integrate with other CA solutions, including CA Asset Management, CA Identity Manager and CA Security Command Center, to help ensure that BlackBerry smartphones are easily incorporated into the broader set of enterprise IT governance best practices. Integration with Active Directory enables ongoing synchronization, monitoring and automated reconfiguration to ensure device configuration and security policy compliance.
