Unicenter® Asset Management r4.0 AppDef Revision 61
The CA Content Team is pleased to announce the release of AppDef Revision 61.

IMPORTANT: In order to import the current revision to r4.0, the following two criteria must be met.

  • Apply Unicenter Asset Management r4 Console Cumulative Fix QO81414.
    It is mandatory for Administrators to apply Cumulative Fix QO81414 to all Asset Management Console nodes in order to accommodate the volume of this revision, which exceeds the capacity of currently un-patched installations. Refer to Cumulative Fix QO81414 documentation.
  • Perform Software Normalization Procedures.
    It is mandatory for Administrators that have not already upgraded beyond AppDef Release 30 to perform the Software Normalization procedures in order to most effectively integrate the current revision with existing signature data. Instructions for the required Software Normalization procedures are posted on SupportConnectSM.

Unicenter® Patch Management November Content Release
The CA Content Team is pleased to announce the November (v0611) release of Unicenter Patch Management's Microsoft Security Rollup packages is available.

The Rollup package includes the following new security bulletins:

Unicenter® Patch Management Content for Unicenter® Desktop and Server Management C1 Patch Release
The CA Content Team is pleased to announce the publication of Unicenter Desktop and Server Management (DSM) C1 Patch packages for Unicenter Patch Management (UPM) customers. The 6 new custom packages account for different installation options, addressing full product installations as well as individual component installations requiring published patch QO83339-C1. The inclusion of the individual component packages allows for effective deployment of the patch maintenance while substantially reducing network and resource activity. The packages are as follows:

Unicenter® Patch Management Internet Explorer 7 Blocker Package
Microsoft plans shortly to distribute the new release of Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) as a high-priority update via Microsoft's Automatic Updates, and Windows Update and Microsoft Update sites. For administrators who wish to block automatic delivery of IE7 in their organizations through Microsoft's automated update sites, the CA Content Team is providing an Internet Explorer 7 Blocker package. For up-to-date information on this and other available UPM patches, please visit Unicenter Patch Management Information Center. Additional information for administrators is available at the Microsoft Windows Update site and on Microsoft TechNet.

Microsoft suggests that customers should complete preparations by November 1, 2006.

CA Introduces Product Line Communities
CA has introduced Product Line Communities (PLC) that focus on a variety of CA products and solutions as well as specific platforms and technologies. The PLCs provide a forum for active and ongoing communication between customers, development, and support.

Benefits of belonging to a CA PLC include:

  • Access to a forum for exchanging information, experiences, and best practices
  • Ability to voice business issues with peers - including industry standards, government regulations, and/or other trends
  • Access to the PLC website for access to product line information (product road maps, presentations, etc.)
  • Increasing the technical advantage of your organization
  • Discovering new ways to leverage CA solutions, increase access to product knowledge, and improve user experience
  • Providing an excellent entry point for new users

Communication with CA - CA PLCs assist in providing feedback to CA to ensure that solutions align with specific IT and business challenges by:

  • Conducting regular webcast presentations from CA development discussing current product releases and road maps
  • Prioritizing and voting on selected product enhancements
  • Participating in technical discussion forums
  • Voicing issues, concerns, and suggestions regarding product direction - to assist in guiding the future of CA solution offerings
