CA Simplifies Product Names
Beginning January 30, 2007, CA is simplifying its product names. Our intention is to describe our products by what they enable you and your business to accomplish. Some names have already changed; others will change over the next 12-18 months as part of the planned development cycle. There is nothing you need to do. We have established a dedicated site at ca.com/productnames as a resource center where you'll find additional information such as frequently asked questions, customer service numbers, and a list of current product names and former names.

Product Updates

CA Client Management Solution r11.2
CA is pleased to announce the electronic availability of the localized CA Client Management Solution r11.2 (formerly known as Unicenter® Desktop and Server Management). Availability of the localized release is targeted for March 30, 2007, for electronic download from SupportConnectSM. This release includes the localized versions for English, German, French, and Japanese.

This is the newest release for managing your enterprise client devices, including asset discovery and inventory, software distribution, and remote administration.

CA's Client Management Solution automates the processes that support an organization's end-user computing needs, helping to ensure the optimum configuration of client devices by delivering critical software resources, security updates and patches in a timely and efficient manner. The solutions' unified architecture and comprehensive product set give IT the ability to more easily standardize the environment, enhance decision-making, mitigate risk, and instill industry standard processes necessary to provide and demonstrate value to the business.

Unicenter® Patch Management Microsoft Content Update
Because Microsoft issued no security updates for this month's normally scheduled patch rollout on March 13, the CA Content Team has not published a March (v0703) release of Unicenter Patch Management's Microsoft Security Roll-up packages. Refer to the Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary at www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms07-mar.mspx for more details. Please be advised that non-security high priority updates have been released by Microsoft as part of the monthly release cycle.

Unicenter® Asset Management r4.0 AppDef Revision 66
The CA Content Team is pleased to announce the release of AppDef Revision 66.

IMPORTANT: In order to import the current revision to Asset Management r4.0, it is mandatory for Administrators to (1) apply Cumulative Fix QO81414 to all Asset Management Console nodes, and (2) perform the Software Normalization procedures posted on SupportConnectSM. Direct access to the links referenced above may be routed through the SupportConnect login page if a session is not previously authenticated.

NOTE: This bulletin is only applicable to Asset Management r4.0 installations, whereas the Asset Management component of Desktop and Server Management r11.x installations will download the content automatically through the Software Content Download Job based on its configuration.

CA Product Line Communities
CA supports many Product Line Communities (PLC) that focus on a variety of CA products and solutions as well as specific platforms and technologies. The PLC's provide a forum for active and ongoing communication between customers, development, and support.

Benefits of belonging to a CA PLC include:

  • Access to a listserv/customer forum for exchanging information, experiences, and best practices
  • Ability to voice business issues with peers - including industry standards, government regulations, and/or other trends
  • Access to the PLC website for access to product line information
  • Increasing the technical advantage of your organization
  • Discovering new ways to leverage CA solutions, increase access to product knowledge, and improve user experience
  • Providing an excellent entry point for new users
Communication with CA - the PLCs assist in providing feedback to CA to ensure that solutions align with specific IT and business challenges by:
  • Conducting regular webcast presentations from CA development discussing current product releases and road maps
  • Prioritizing and voting on selected product enhancements
  • Participating in technical discussion listservs and forums
  • Voicing issues, concerns, and suggestions regarding product direction - to assist in guiding the future of CA solution offerings
