General Information
Is Your Multi-User Facility Running in an Authorized State?
What state does your Multi-User Facility normally run in? Mine normally runs in New York, but that's not what I'm referring to. What I'm talking about is whether or not the Multi-User Facility is running as an authorized program in a z/OS or OS/390 environment. Just what does running in an authorized state mean to the operating system? Does it really matter to the CA-Datacom® Multi-User Facility? How can you quickly determine if the Multi-User Facility is running authorized or not? Click here for answers to these questions and more.

Reducing LXX Read IOs With CA-Datacom®/DB r11
A new enhancement was provided in the r11 base release of CA-Datacom/DB to improve the time it takes to spill records from the LXX (Log file) to the RXX (Recovery file). In client testing, this enhancement has also shown that it can significantly reduce physical read IO activity. Click here for more information.

How to Find "Less Than IDEAL" Code
If your site has some very old CA-Ideal® applications, there may be some programs using "TRANSFER TO" syntax. In CA-Ideal, the "TRANSFER TO" syntax is basically the same as a COBOL "GO TO" statement. Generally, the use of this type of code is not regarded as the best practice for creating and maintaining readable, concise modularized code. It has been widely recommended for the last several releases that CA-Ideal users discontinue the use of the "TRANSFER TO" syntax. CA-Ideal sites can control use of the "TRANSFER TO" syntax by specifying PDLTRAN= NO in the CA-Ideal Options (IDOPTS). The default for PDLTRAN is NO, which means a program containing "TRANSFER TO" syntax will fail to compile. In order to allow the program to compile, the IDOPTS would need to be assembled with PDLTRAN=YES to allow this syntax. With CA-Ideal r11, the PDLTRAN option has been eliminated as obsolete.
