CA Simplifies Product Names
Beginning January 30, 2007, CA is simplifying its product names. Our intention is to describe our products by what they enable you and your business to accomplish. Some names have already changed; others will change over the next 12-18 months as part of the planned development cycle. There is nothing you need to do. We have established a dedicated site at ca.com/productnames as a resource center where you'll find additional information such as frequently asked questions, customer service numbers, and a list of current product names and former names.

General Information
The Purpose of the r11 Heuristic Database
The Multi-User CBS startup option allows you to code a Heuristic DBID. Have you ever wondered what this is or why you should consider using it? What is the benefit of using the Heuristic database? If you use CA Ideal™ or CA MetaCOBOL™ or have user written programs that issue set-at-a-time commands (SELxx), this article will be of interest to you.

Connecting to Multiple LPARs From a Single Workstation
Would you like the ability to connect a PC to more than one LPAR using CA Datacom® Server? Click here to learn about this feature of r11, scheduled to begin Beta testing shortly.

Top

Using Table Partitioning With CA Ideal™ r11
You want your CA Ideal applications to run 24x7, but you also need to take table partitions offline for maintenance. How can you have your cake and reorg it, too? Find out here.

Top

Attack of the Clones
Each MUF contains the same database (same tables, same DBID), so the same dataviews match all the instances. How can I write an application that accesses all of them? Click here to find out.

Top

Cursor Behaviors
I changed my dataview from CBS to SQL access, and now the program won't run. It fails with an SQLCODE of -135. What can I do?

Identifying Users in CA Ideal™ Applications
The new $HOST-ID function in CA Ideal r11 gives you another way to identify the user. But what does it mean, and how does it differ from $USER-NAME and $USER-ID? Click here to find out.

Special Events
CA WORLD® 2007 and Webcast on Modernizing CA Datacom®
Coming soon: CA WORLD 2007
January 17, 2007 Preview Recording: CA WORLD Preview - AutoCollect Overview

CA WORLD 2007, being held April 22-26, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada, will be here before we know it. Register here for the conference. If you are a member of the CA Datacom user group (CADRE), you can save an additional $200 on the registration.

Why should you come to CA WORLD 2007? For one thing, you can learn how to modernize your CA Datacom systems. As a CA WORLD 2007 preview, we presented a 30-minute webcast on January 17, 2007, about our automated CA Datacom performance metric tool called AutoCollect and highlighted CA WORLD 2007 sessions from CA customers and partners that drill down into specific aspects of modernizing CA Datacom. The webcast also described the other CA Datacom sessions, programs, and opportunities at CA WORLD 2007. You can view the recording at ca.com/webcasts. Use "Webcast Replays" as search criteria.

So make your plans to come to CA WORLD 2007 and share your insights and experiences on modernizing CA Datacom.

Planned Technical Webcasts for 2007
We will continue the delivery of technical webcasts during 2007. These webcasts will be scheduled about once per month with each webcast presenting a key topic. These webcasts were very successful in 2006 and we want to continue the trend for 2007.

However, we need your input. If you have an idea for a technical webcast, please send an email to (Rick.Reagan@ca.com). Rick is the CA Datacom® Product Manager and is formulating a list of topics for 2007 right now.
