CleverPath™ Portal r4.7 is in the Final Stages of Manufacturing for General Availability
Running on Windows, Linux, and UNIX environments and fully internationalized for ten languages, CleverPath Portal r4.7 includes dozens of new and improved features. CleverPath Portal r4.7 introduces comprehensive new portal-oriented content management services plus significant usability improvements, customer-driven enhancements, and upgraded platform support to the core portal functionality.

Licensed customers active on maintenance will be able to download electronic CD images of CleverPath Portal r4.7 from the Downloads area of SupportConnectSM. Orders for CleverPath Portal r4.7 General Availability (GA) CDs will be accepted in early November. In North America, you can call 1-800-637-5858 or contact your local account representative or reseller. Outside of North America, please contact your local Computer Associates International, Inc. Windows XP Service Pack 2 Support
Microsoft has just recently released SP2 for the Windows XP operating system. CA Technical Support understands that many of you will be migrating Windows XP environments to this new service pack in the near-term future and we are committed to supporting our CleverPath™ solutions in this environment. Please see the Windows XP Service Pack 2 CleverPath support matrix available on SupportConnectSM for more information.

CleverPath™ Portal Access Denied While Publishing a URL on Windows XP
Service Pack 2

CleverPath Portal customers should be aware that due to increased security restrictions incorporated into Windows XP Service Pack 2, CleverPath Portal requires a software patch to allow publishing of URLs using Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Without this patch in-place, users accessing the Portal from a machine running Windows XP SP2 will encounter an "Access Denied" Javascript error while attempting to publish a URL. Possible Security Issue with the CleverPath™ Portal "Forgot Your Password" Option
The "Forgot Your Password" option available on the CleverPath Portal standard login page could cause potential security vulnerability for brute force guessing of user names. Customers who are concerned about this vulnerability can easily disable it by adding "show.passwords.in.api=false" to their local.properties file. More detailed instructions on the vulnerability and methodologies to address it can be found in technical solution QI60035.

Daylight Saving Time Reminder for Advantage™ Data Transformer Customers
During this time of year, many countries and most states in the United States, change their clocks appropriately for daylight saving time (DST). When such a DST transition takes place, some customers prefer that Advantage Data Transformer run their transformation scripts based on their local time rather than Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is the default behavior. These customers should review technical note TEC298354, which explains how this functionality works and provides important considerations to consider prior to deployment.

In order to have Advantage Data Transformer automatically adjust scheduled script times for DST, you must apply the proper product maintenance. Customers running with release 2.1 must apply Service Pack 1 and customers still running with release 2.0 must apply cumulative patch DWM2.0.000_500_031014.

Licensing Error When Using AllFusion® Repository for Distributed Systems Release 2.2
Advantage™ Data Transformer Enterprise Metadata Edition (ADTEME) customers who newly install AllFusion Repository for Distributed Systems (ARDS) Release 2.2 as their metadata environment may notice licensing error messages being written to their Windows application event log. The error situation is isolated to environments where ARDS 2.2 is newly installed on the machine before ADTEME. This happens because ADTEME installs an earlier release of CA licensing that does not detect the updated release of CA licensing that ARDS release 2.2 introduces. This means you could be running with a licensing environment that is essentially a hybrid of the older and newer releases. This problem can be quickly addressed by using the mergecalic utility. CleverPath™ Reporter Release 4.2 is Now Available
We are pleased to announce the general availability of CleverPath Reporter Release 4.2.

CleverPath Reporter Release 4.2 contains numerous software corrections, native support for Ingres® Enterprise Relational Database, and support for multi-byte characters. For more detailed information, please review the announcement notice and an overview of some of the changes between release 4.2 and prior releases of CleverPath Reporter available on our online technical support site.

CleverPath™ Forest & Trees® Release 7.0 Service Pack 1 is Now Available
The Computer Associates Technical Support team is pleased to announce that CleverPath Forest & Trees Release 7.0 Service Pack 1 is now available. This Service Pack includes several significant additions to the functionality of the CleverPath Forest & Trees 7.0 Release such as:
  • ADO.NET Interface for querying remote databases via HTTP
  • SOAP Scripting Add-in for calling Web services

General Information
Configuring Multiple CleverPath™ Portals for Distributed Content and High Availability
CleverPath Portal can be deployed in a high availability environment to provide a stable and robust configuration using multiple servers. This recently published technical document (Document ID TEC342248) describes a distributed multiple Portal configuration where two or more Portals use the same repository database, but the underlying published content is stored locally on each separate Portal. This type of advanced configuration will allow for advanced load balancing and failover capabilities with the added benefit of distributing the networking load for content retrieval.

Optimizing CleverPath™ Portal by Search Engine Indexing
Although the CleverPath Portal search engine does not typically require maintenance, there are times when an administrator should clean the search index and reindex the existing documents to ensure optimal performance. This technical document (Document ID TEC342260) available on our online technical support site explains that process and how the Autonomy Search Engine processes files for indexing. This document also contains valuable troubleshooting tips for specific situations.

Checking CleverPath™ Forest & Trees® Dependencies Using Internal Libraries
With the recent expiration of support for CleverPath Forest & Trees 6.51 (July 25, 2004), application developers should be well advanced with their migration to CleverPath Forest & Trees 7.0. However, customers utilizing features available in later releases could present a problem with backward compatibility should a user still be running with a runtime from an earlier product release. This technical document (Document ID TEC343243) illustrates a solution to a problem that occurs when running a CleverPath Forest & Trees FTV file that contains internal libraries requiring a later version of the Forest & Trees runtime environment.

Using CleverPath™ OLAP Publisher with CleverPath™ Portal
The CleverPath OLAP Publisher provides a convenient way to publish OLAP reports to CleverPath Portal. This allows critical business data analysis to be quickly distributed to the appropriate users optimizing your investment in CleverPath OLAP. Customers who want to exploit this technology should review technical solution QI54984. This informational solution documents the life cycle of a published CleverPath OLAP report as well as how to publish it to CleverPath Portal.

CleverPath™ Aion® Business Rules Expert Missing Reentrant Routines
CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert (Aion BRE) developers who are writing thread-safe applications or planning to do so in the future should be aware that certain reentrant "C" language routines were not made available on the AIX and Solaris platforms (AIONU266).

Additionally, the reentrant version of the random number generator (rand_r) was not being duly exposed. The specific "C" library routines and their reentrant counterparts are discussed in technical solution QO54754. Developers who are building thread-safe Aion applications are advised to ensure they are working with CleverPath Aion BRE Release 9.5 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) applied. Zero Values Appear in CleverPath™ Predictive Analysis Server Consult Results
CleverPath Predictive Analysis Server's (CPAS) Neugent Provider Wizard application presents the user with the capability to consult a previously trained Neugent model with a table of new data. The user can then generate a Microsoft Excel-friendly CSV file containing the results (predicted values) of the consult operation. Occasionally, the predicted values in these CSV files may suspiciously appear as zeros. This problem is due to inadequate precision used when CPAS generated the CSV files. This problem and information about updated software patch CPAS_3.0.001_005_040526.zip are discussed in technical solution QO55186.

CleverPath™ Reporter HTML4 Report Display Using Mozilla or Netscape Browsers
CleverPath Reporter customers who convert their reports to HTML and use Netscape or Mozilla to view their reports may notice that some of the grid lines and borders do not display correctly. This is due to the variety of ways in which different vendors' browsers interpret box dimensions. CleverPath Reporter has the capability to allow the user to set a specific browser type to be used for viewing the HTML output and produces the appropriate browser-specific code to display grids correctly. For more information on how to properly configure CleverPath Reporter for viewing reports with Netscape and Mozilla, please read technical solution QO60562.
