Have You Registered for SupportConnect^SM?
SupportConnect is a new product technical support website from Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA). It includes an improved Knowledge Base that allows you to retrieve all types of product-related information with a single search. It also provides practical new features such as full product downloads and an easy-to-use Suggestion Box where you can submit product enhancement ideas.

In addition, all the best features of CA's existing online support systems are integrated into SupportConnect. These include solution downloads, license key downloads, virus signature downloads, product-specific FAQs, technical support issue management, Newsgroup open forums, and E-News archives.

To deliver high-quality support online, we have begun consolidating the historic CA support websites. We encourage you to take advantage of the many new facilities of SupportConnect for your technical support needs. Converting your Webtrack account is easy; please follow the instructions in Convert Existing Account. After you convert your account, your current email address will be your SupportConnect login ID and your password will remain the same.

Windows XP SP2 Support
Microsoft has just recently released SP2 for the Windows XP operating system. CA Technical Support understands that many of you will be migrating Windows XP environments to this new service pack in the near-term future and we are committed to supporting our CleverPath™ solutions in this environment. CleverPath™ Aion® Business Rules Expert r9.5 OS/390 Potential Memory Overlay
CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert r9.5 OS/390 customers are advised to review SupportConnect^SM Hyper Solution QO55295. This solution discusses the implications of a potential memory overlay that can be introduced by an Aion® client program running in a CICS or IMS environment. CA Technical Support recommends customers apply the corrective patch that is available on SupportConnect as a download within the aforementioned solution.

CleverPath™ Aion® Business Rules Expert r9.5 SP2 Now Available
The CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert Technical Support team is pleased to announce that SP2 is now available for r9.5 of CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert. SP2 includes a number of valuable software fixes that the Technical Support team has addressed since the release of CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert r9.5. SP2 is available for the Windows and UNIX platforms.

Advantage™ Data Transformer r2.1 SP1 Now Available
CA's Advantage Data Transformer Technical Support team is pleased to announce that Advantage Data Transformer SP1 is now available for download. This service pack includes a significant number of valuable software fixes as well as support for Windows XP SP2. It is also applicable both to Advantage Data Transformer and Advantage™ Data Transformer Enterprise Metadata Edition environments.

To take advantage of this valuable software maintenance, you must have already upgraded your environment to Advantage Data Transformer r2.1. For more information, please refer to the announcement letter available on SupportConnect^SM. You can download SP1 immediately by clicking here.

General Information

Using Internet Explorer and JRE with CleverPath™ Portal
When using the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) web browser with CleverPath Portal, a user could be prompted to download a copy of a Java Runtime Environment (JRE). However, the link IE references is a Microsoft site which no longer offers a JRE download. This occurs when no Java runtime has been installed on the user's Portal client machine. For more information, please reference Solution QI54240 available on SupportConnect^SM.

Templates in CleverPath™ Portal
One of the many benefits of using CleverPath Portal is that it is highly customizable to fit your business requirements. CleverPath Portal allows administrators to utilize different kinds of templates which provide a tailored "look and feel" to the portal interface. You can use either frame-based templates or table-based templates. This SupportConnect^SM Technical Document (Document ID TEC264790) explains the benefits of each type, helping you to determine which type of template is right for your technical and business needs.

CleverPath™ OLAP r5.1 - Migrating User Data From InfoBeacon r4.0.6
Support for InfoBeacon r4.0.6 ended on January 31, 2004. Any customer still using this outdated release is advised to migrate to the most recent release of CleverPath OLAP to continue to receive CA product technical support.

The installation process for CleverPath OLAP Release 5.1 automatically migrates your existing metadata; however, you must migrate your user access data using the MergeSecInfo tool. There is a subtlety to this migration that, if overlooked, could cause your users and groups to appear to have been migrated incorrectly.

The crucial fact to remember during the migration of your user information is that your cube names are case-sensitive. Your Abstraction Data File (ADF) name must match the cube name exactly. This will typically be the case, but if you move files around or rename any files, be sure the file names match the abstract (cube or cube set) names exactly. Please see Solution QI53937 available on SupportConnect^SM for more detailed information.

Maintaining Advantage™ Data Transformer IDB Log Tables
The Advantage Data Transformer's internal database (IDB) keeps track of past script executions as well as text and data output associated with those executions. As a Data Movement Server runs for longer periods of time and accumulates more script executions, it becomes necessary to perform routine maintenance on the IDB to keep the size of the log tables manageable and optimize performance. Fortunately, the Script Manager can be used to automatically truncate old entries in the Execution table, which purges obsolete entries from the IDB. Doing so not only increases the reliability of the data movement server, but also speeds up the Script Manager's log and execution management features.

Triggers in CleverPath™ EUREKA:Strategy™ - What They Are and How to Use Them
Users of CleverPath EUREKA:Strategy can configure automatic responses to specific events in their environment using triggers. Triggers are used to schedule agents after a specific action takes place in the database. For example, they can trigger a report to run in reaction to the completion of a database load operation. For details, see this Technical Document (Document ID TEC314402) available on SupportConnect^SM.

Using Parameter Substitutions in CleverPath™ Forest & Trees®
CleverPath Forest & Trees parameter substitutions are a special kind of substitution in which user-specified values are inserted at designated points in the data or expression. When you create a parameter substitution, it will contain placeholders that are replaced by user-inputted values when the substitution is returned to the user. Parameter substitutions help make for more efficient and consistent coding because you can store and re-use frequently used boilerplate text or expressions. Please reference this SupportConnect^SM Technical Document (Document ID TEC320550) to learn more about implementing CleverPath Forest & Trees parameter substitutions.

Controlling the Placement of Group Footers on a CleverPath™ EUREKA:Reporter™ Report
By default, a group footer on a CleverPath EUREKA:Reporter Report will be moved to the following page if the whole item will not fit on the current page and no detail line is defined. By modifying the report, it is possible to force the footer to print on the current page, ensuring that the report produces more compact output with reduced white space. A sample report and more details of the required changes can be found in this Technical Document (Document ID TEC324568).

Using Configuration Files to Simplify the Building of Reports in CleverPath™ Reporter
CleverPath Reporter can make use of a configuration file by simplifying the building of reports. The file can be created using the Administrator tool and then used by any user who needs to create reports. It can include table and column aliases, table join information and rules. Additionally, it can be used to restrict the user's access to tables in the database. This Technical Document (Document ID TEC321908) gives a step-by-step guide to creating a new configuration file and how to make it available to your reporting users.

CleverPath™ Predictive Analysis Server Helpful Hints
The CleverPath Predictive Analysis Server Web Service Broker Installer Fails to Find a Java Virtual Machine
Users of CleverPath Predictive Analysis Server r3.0 who select the "Web Service Broker" option in the "Select Features" dialog in the product setup program may have encountered the following error during installation:

Error code 601 "JVM not found".

This error occurs because a copy of JAVA.EXE is currently running on the target machine. For further information, please see Solution QI53040 on SupportConnect^SM.

Model Quality Score is Zero Despite Low Predictive Errors
Users of CleverPath Predictive Analysis Server r3.0, when training a ValuePredictNeugent via the Neugent Provider Wizard, may notice a Model Quality score of zero at the conclusion of training, despite the fact that predictive Train and Test Error figures for the model are very low, seemingly indicating a good model. This behavior is based on a very small statistical variance in the model's output field(s). For further information on this, please see Solution QI54250 on SupportConnect.

CleverPath™ Aion® Business Rules Expert GUI Development Tips
ComboBox SelectString() Method Cannot Use Selection Attribute
When developing applications using ComboBoxes in CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert, you may notice that the ComboBox.SelectString method does not work if it is used with the ComboBox.Selection attribute. This happens because the SelectString method sets the Selection attribute to NULL. Please see Solution QI53184 on SupportConnect^SM for information on how to use the string value in the Selection attribute as a parameter of the SelectString method.

The WhenChosen Event is Not Fired for a ListBox
CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert application developers may notice that the WhenChosen event may not fire for ListBox objects at certain times. For example, where the Aion developer expects this event to be fired after a user double-click, the WhenSelected event is fired instead. For information on why this occurs and tips on alternate methods to take action based on the user's double-click, please see Solution QO54267 available on SupportConnect.
