CleverPath™ Aion® MAES Component Running as Authorized Program -
HYPER Notification

As delivered, the CleverPath Aion MAES component is linked allowing it to execute as an authorized program. As such, it would be possible for a programmer to write an assembler program that can execute privileged operations and invoke this program from within an Aion application running in MAES.

When MAES is executing as an authorized program, as it does by default, an assembler program invoked by an Aion application via the RunMVSProgram method would be able to execute the MODESET macro. An assembler program executing the MODESET macro could change to supervisor mode and subsequently execute privileged operations, potentially impacting the integrity of MAES and/or the operating system.

To prevent this, re-link MAES with "AC=0" so that MAES cannot execute as an authorized program.

CleverPath™ Support recently sent notification about this to customers who have registered to receive HYPERs. For more information and the full text of the HYPER, please see Solution QI67247 on SupportConnectSM.

Improved Customer Support Through Remote Access
Have you ever tried to explain your software problem to a CA Customer Support engineer and wished that you had a way for us look at your environment first-hand? Well, your wish has come true!

As part of our continuing effort to improve the service we provide to you, our valuable customers, CA Customer Support now has a tool available, called GoToAssist, that removes the complexities of making a remote connection to your machine. The remote connection is secure and is established within a few minutes via a web broker service. CA Customer Support can then view your desktop and share control of your mouse and keyboard. At any time during a remote support session, you can easily take control of your computer by moving the mouse.

Among other things, you will be able to demonstrate directly to CA Customer Support the steps you took to create a problem, or allow the CA Customer Support engineer to directly gather relevant diagnostic information from your system with your permission. To learn more, please review the information available on SupportConnectSM by clicking here.

General Information
CleverPath™ Portal - FAST Search Documentation
CleverPath Portal uses an embedded third-party search engine, FAST Data Search v 4.0, to index and query its content. CleverPath Portal support now provides documentation from Fast Search & Transfer, Inc., on CA's SupportConnectSM site. The provided documents are the Product Overview Guide and the Reference Guide. Please see this Technical Document (Document ID TEC363086) on SupportConnect.

The CleverPath Portal support team has also provided troubleshooting documentation on how to reindex your content, if needed. This Technical Document (Document ID TEC363078) covers how to troubleshoot the FAST Search engine when a reindex into your Portal does not complete successfully.

CleverPath™ Forest & Trees® - Specifying an Alternate Location for FTW.INI
CleverPath Forest & Trees uses the FTW.INI file to read and write configuration information every time Forest & Trees is executed. The default location of the FTW.INI file is the Windows Folder, which is typically C:\Windows. This is not always a convenient or workable location for this configuration file.

See this Technical Document (Document ID TEC365597) to learn how to specify an alternate location for FTW.INI.

Advantage™ Data Transformer - How to Create and Call User-Defined LIB Functions (UDEFS)
Advantage Data Transformer (ADT) accommodates most of the extract, transform, and load (ETL) operations that customers need to perform to populate and maintain their data warehouses. However, because customer needs are frequently unique, ADT has long been able to call user-created libraries to meet those needs. Improved and centralized documentation about how to do this is now available in this Technical Document (Document ID TEC367715) on SupportConnectSM to help customers write their own UDEFS libraries with a minimum of effort.

CleverPath™ Reporter - Customizing Reports by Modifying Country Code Defaults
Where a particular date or currency format is required for a language or country, CleverPath Reporter allows customization by using a configuration file to override the default country settings.

Please read this Technical Document (Document ID TEC355729) for information about changing format for variables such as currency for a given country.

CleverPath™ Aion® - Creating AionSession Objects Based on an Object Reference
Before a Java program can create proxy objects corresponding to instances of CleverPath Aion application classes, the Java program needs to create and specify a session that Aion uses internally to maintain the Aion-side memory (including instances, class attributes, etc.). In multi-threaded Java environments, controlling the creation of AionSession instances and reusing these sessions amongst a number of Java threads is often desired. Information regarding the creation of an AionSession object, based on an object other than the current calling thread, is detailed in this Technical Document (Document ID TEC366583) on SupportConnectSM.

CleverPath™ Aion® r10 Adds Support for Tuning Online Component Execution
CleverPath Aion r10 provides a facility for tuning Aion components that execute in an online (mainframe) environment. The Application Parameter Facility allows Language Environment (LE) runtime parameters to be specified for each Aion component being executed in MAES. This allows the LE runtime options to be customized to each Aion application in order to achieve the optimum performance in terms of both CPU and memory utilization. For details, please see this Technical Document (Document ID TEC366584) on SupportConnectSM.
