CleverPath™ Portal 4.5 and 4.51 Support Expiration Dates Announced
With the recent release of CleverPath Portal r4.7, we have just recently announced the support expiration schedule for releases 4.5 and 4.51. Mainstream Customer Support for CleverPath Portal releases 4.5 and 4.51 will expire on July 31, 2006. Your successful deployment of CleverPath Portal is very important to us. This information is being provided proactively to allow you to begin making arrangements to migrate to r4.7. CA Technical Services is available to assist in any or all parts of your migration, including analysis of the current system, preparation for the migration, testing, and performing the migration itself. Running on Windows, Linux, and UNIX environments and fully internationalized for ten languages, CleverPath Portal r4.7 includes dozens of new and improved features. CleverPath Portal r4.7 introduces comprehensive new portal-oriented content management services plus significant usability improvements, customer-driven enhancements, and upgraded platform support to the core portal functionality. Licensed CleverPath Portal customers active on maintenance can download electronic CD images of CleverPath Portal r4.7 from the Downloads area of SupportConnect. CleverPath™ Aion® r10 is Approaching General Availability
CleverPath Aion r10 offers comprehensive business rules and business process management, delivering unmatched benefits in the areas of productivity, flexibility, integration, and automation optimizing business efficiency and automation. Aion r10 delivers significant enhancements to the industry leading CleverPath™ Aion® Business Rules Expert (Aion BRE) product and a new, separately licensed product - CleverPath™ Aion® Business Process Manager (Aion BPM).

CleverPath Aion BPM offers process optimization through an open, integrated package including a robust workflow engine that supports human-to-human, system-to-human, and system-to-system activities, business rules management for business audience, and business activity monitoring with a full-featured, customizable dashboard that offers effective monitoring and reporting for on-going process optimization.

CleverPath Aion customers active on maintenance will be able to download electronic CD images of CleverPath Aion r10 from the Downloads area of SupportConnectSM. CleverPath™ Forest & Trees® r7.1 and Dashboard Option 1.1 are Approaching General Availability
CleverPath Forest & Trees is a complete, integrated and open dashboard development environment for building and deploying interactive content that directly supports deeper understanding of your business. Either as a stand-alone product or delivered in conjunction with CleverPat™ Portal (as CleverPath™ Dashboard Option), CleverPath Forest & Trees enables the rapid creation and deployment of rich, visual, interactive content for
dashboard-style information delivery.

New functionality being introduced includes:
  • New 3-tier data access leveraging ADO.Net
  • New "Safe Mode" capability providing "sandbox" portlet development and deployment
  • New SOAP interface to support web services integration into an EIS/DSS or dashboard portlet application (similar to the XML DOM scripting object introduced in CleverPath Forest & Trees r7.0)
  • Enhance visualization capabilities including the introduction of 3D map charts
  • Inclusion of a directory of reusable code samples

Improved Customer Support through Remote Access
Have you ever tried to explain your software problem to a CA Customer Support engineer and wished that you had a way for us look at your environment first-hand? Well, your wish has come true!

As part of our continuing effort to improve the service we provide to you, our valuable customers, CA Customer Support now has a tool available that removes the complexities of making a remote connection to your machine. The remote connection is secure and is established within a few minutes via a web broker service. CA Customer Support can then view your desktop and share control of your mouse and keyboard. At any time during a remote support session, you can easily take control of your computer by moving the mouse. Among other things, you will be able to demonstrate directly to CA Customer Support the steps you took to create a problem or allow the CA Customer Support engineer to directly gather relevant diagnostic information from your system with your permission. The Advantage Data Transformer team is now accepting registrations for beta testing of forthcoming Advantage Data Transformer r2.2. Advantage Data Transformer is a powerful data transformation, replication, and integration tool featuring a flexible, easy-to-use, and comprehensive development environment. With this new release, Advantage Data Transformer introduces new XML and Web services capabilities, and expands its database and platform support. CleverPath™ Reporter User Prompts for OnDemand Reports
A common inquiry to CleverPath Reporter Support is how to write OnDemand CleverPath Reporter reports with prompts that do not invoke drop down lists. When publishing an OnDemand report with prompts to CleverPath Portal and executing it from the Portal, users are provided with a list of possible values (in a drop down menu) to run the report. In some reporting situations, it would be desirable for the user to enter a distinct value rather than scrolling down the list, which can be time consuming. To accomplish this, CleverPath Reporter has a feature called IRLINK. Using SQL Server Stored Procedures With the CleverPath™ Forest & Trees®
ADO .Net Interface
The Forest & Trees ADO .Net Interface is a new feature implemented in CleverPath Forest & Trees 7.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) for querying remote databases via HTTP. As with other general database interfaces, the ADO .Net interface will allow execution of SQL Server Stored Procedures. There are several points that need to be considered when executing stored procedures. This Technical Document (Document ID TEC352983) examines some of the issues involved in getting stored procedures to function with the CleverPath Forest & Trees ADO .Net interface.

CleverPath™ Portal r4.7 Relational Search Operators
CleverPath Portal r4.7 includes a new advanced search engine to allow finding content within the portal. The behavior of searching has changed a little since release 4.51. With the new search engine, you can refine your search results by using certain syntax to specify if you want all or some words from the search query included in the resulting documents. Using the CleverPath™ Portal Email Capabilities for Proactive Notifications
CleverPath™ Portal includes functionality for personalized email notifications so that your users can be proactively updated when a document changes or content within a folder changes. Each user can customize their notifications by choosing specific content to be notified about. You can also define a list of email addresses to be notified when content has been altered. CleverPath™ Aion® Business Rules Expert Upgrading Visual Studio
CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert (BRE) Release 9.5 users who upgrade their Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 (VC6) compiler to the newer Visual Studio .NET 2002 or 2003 (VC7) compiler releases will need to make some configuration changes to their CleverPath Aion Integrated Development Environment (IDE). This is required to account for changes Microsoft has introduced since Visual Studio 6.0 was released. Failure to update your CleverPath Aion IDE environment will result in an assortment of different compile and link problems when building new and existing applications. The changes made to the CleverPath Aion IDE are straightforward and they will ensure your business rules development environment is not impacted. CleverPath™ Aion® Business Rules Expert Application Error Handling on Windows
CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert (BRE) provides a robust environment for developing, testing. and deploying advanced business rules applications. As such, application developers have a couple of different options available for running applications. An informational solution was recently posted to SupportConnect that focuses on CleverPath Aion BRE applications deployed on Windows platforms. This solution highlights the different modes of execution as well as how the error handling is managed in each mode. Advantage™ Data Transformer Code Generation and Execution with Multiple Servers
One of the many features Advantage Data Transformer customers find useful is its scalability. The capability of adding additional Data Movement Servers is a key way that Advantage Data Transformer scales up to meet larger data throughput requirements. Maintaining a multiple server environment has a couple of subtleties that an administrator should master in order to run Advantage Data Transformer successfully.

The Advantage Data Transformer code generation uses keys stored in the IDB by the Interface Synchronizer (ipsync). However, the Advantage Data Transformer IDB stores only the most recently captured set of interface code generation keys. This design may create challenges in some heterogeneous linkage environments:
  • Code generation complexities
  • Run-time malfunctions on a particular Data Movement Server
To address these challenges, please reference Informational Solutions QI61490 and QI61491 available on SupportConnectSM.

The best approach is to avoid these subtleties altogether by ensuring that your servers' dynamic linkage environments remain identical.

Scanning Wide Excel Columns with Advantage™ Data Transformer
The Advantage Data Transformer Mapper can scan Excel spreadsheets using Microsoft's Excel ODBC driver. The spreadsheets can then be used as source and target tables when moving critical business data. However, the Microsoft ODBC driver has a problem reporting the data type for columns which would normally scan as "long varchar" - that is, columns which may hold more than 255 characters of text.
