Unicenter® Automation Point™ r11.1 - Generally Available (GA)
WE HAVE OUTSTANDING NEWS for Unicenter Automation Point customers! Effective with this release of Unicenter Automation Point, you no longer need to purchase Attachmate Extra for terminal emulation. With Unicenter Automation Point r11.1, CA delivers native support for TN3270E.

We have just completed the most successful Beta for Unicenter Automation Point in the history of the product. THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED!

The following is an overview of the features of Unicenter Automation Point r11.1:
  • SMTP - the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) has been added in this release to provide additional flexibility and functionality to the existing outbound email notification support.
  • TN3270 - Native support for the TN3270E connection protocol has been added in this release to provide additional functionality and increase the maximum number of monitored mainframe hosts (sessions).
  • Notification Manager - the existing Notification Manager component has been redesigned to store notification policy information in CA's Management Database (MDB). The Microsoft SQL Server DBMS has been selected as the platform to host the MDB used by this component. The Notification Website has also been redesigned in this release to adhere to CA's UI Standards, which provide a common look and feel across all CA products. The notification scheduling process has been streamlined by allowing individuals to define schedule durations that span midnight.
The following are comments from our Beta participants:
  • "We are very pleased, with all other functions of product currently in use by us. The TN3270 feature is going to greatly improve the stability of our environment."
  • "With the scalability of the new TN3270E option, we will be able to really evaluate server consolidation, lowering our costs."
  • "With less dependency on add-on software, this [TN3270E support] will greatly simplify our rollout and maintenance of the software we use for our consoles."
Also note that support for r4 will be discontinued January 31, 2008. We encourage you to implement Unicenter Automation Point r11.1 as soon as possible so that you can experience many of the new functions, simplifying your operating environment.

opsXchange 2006
The opsXchange 2006 Technical Training Seminar completed its sixth successful year. Those in attendance indicated that this year's conference continued to surpass previous years and that, dollar for dollar, it is still one of the best values in technical training available today for automation. Once again, four concurrent sessions were run daily that offered more than 40 technical sessions over the two-and-a-half-day time frame.

There were sessions to satisfy everyone from automation novices to seasoned veterans and the planning team saw to it that the needs of everyone were met. In addition to the sessions on existing features and functions, there were sessions on product futures as well. Also, back by popular demand, we offered hands-on labs where attendees had the opportunity to "kick the tires" and experience some valuable time at the wheel of their favorite CA automation and performance products. This year also saw the introduction of Unicenter® NetMaster™ Network Management sessions and the valuable product integration with the CA automation and performance product suite.

The initial stages of planning for next year's event have already begun and we look forward to a bigger and better opsXchange Technical Training Seminar in 2007. Shortly, a link will be posted on the Pro Tech website announcing opsXchange 2007. Session materials from this year's seminar will be available shortly. We anticipate even more member sessions for next year's event. See you there!
