Advantage™ CA-Easytrieve® r11 Beta Program
Be the first to benefit from the latest in enterprise report generation and data manipulation technology.

Our beta program for Advantage CA-Easytrieve r11 will be starting soon. We have been working on many exciting enhancements for this new release. Here is a recap of just a few of the enhancements included in this release:
  • Windows-Based Compiler
This feature allows compilation and execution of Advantage CA-Easytrieve programs within Windows. A program written on Windows can be migrated, virtually without change, to any other platform.

  • Windows-Based Development Environment
You can now write, debug, and deploy Advantage CA-Easytrieve programs on the Windows platform. To accomplish this, you can syntax check the program, highlight errors (for easy correction), view real-time variable values, and step through program logic.

  • Windows-Based Printer Set Definition (PSD) Editor
This feature extends the mainframe PSD "language processor" support to the UNIX and Windows platforms. The Windows environment makes it easier to build complex definitions that can then be targeted and built for any platform Advantage
    CA-Easytrieve supports.

  • Windows-Based GUI Options Table Editor
Within the Windows version of the product, an application is included to allow you to set or change the Compile and Execution values that are stored within the Options Table. Once configured, a valid Options Table can be easily generated for any Advantage CA-Easytrieve platform and migrated there for usage.

  • Advantage™ Intraccess™ Integration
The Advantage Intraccess suite of products provides the ability to integrate enterprise server data access with corporate applications using the power of the Internet and intranet. It is designed to allow mainframe Advantage CA-Easytrieve applications to be submitted from within the Web interface and have the results of the report displayed within the Web, emailed to designated recipients, or even published to a Web server or to CleverPath™ Portal as HTML.

  • XML Output Capability
The new XML parameter on the REPORT statement allows you to specify that a report is to be generated as an XML file that can be integrated into any style sheet and viewed within a Web application or input into any application supporting XML.

  • Web Enablement
Advantage CA-Easytrieve Plus web-enables applications in a matter of minutes and thereby significantly enhances your ability to get information to the right people at the right time via an access method that has become pervasive in the industry. To accomplish this, you can add three simple statements to any new or existing Advantage CA-Easytrieve program. These statements create the HTML file with all of the HTML tags required to display the Advantage CA-Easytrieve report in any browser.

  • Several New Features for the z/OS Platform
    • 128-character variable names
    • Boundary checking of subscripts and indices during execution protects your environment and prevents abnormal termination
    • Introduction of the PROGRAM super activity that can execute other activities as logic dictates
    • Enhanced compilation listings
    • Environment-independent FILE statement ensures portability between environments and access methods
    • Direct access to execution parameters through the PROGRAM statement replaces calls to EZTPX01
    • Ability to LINK and TRANSFER to another Advantage CA-Easytrieve program
    • Ability to specify column locations for title items in automatically adjusted reports

  • ODBC Interface
This feature has enhanced Advantage CA-Easytrieve access to additional data sources. These sources include: Advantage™ EDBC® for read/write access to mainframe data sources such as VSAM, Advantage™ CA-IDMS®/DB Database, Advantage™
CA-Datacom®/DB Database, IMS, and DB2 to access any ODBC-enabled data from within your Advantage CA-Easytrieve program.

  • C-ISAM Processing for Sun Solaris
The C-ISAM Processing for Sun Solaris feature includes support for data on Sun Solaris by providing access to both variable-length and relative record format C-ISAM files.
We are very excited about these new enhancements and hope you will participate in the Advantage CA-Easytrieve r11 beta program.
