BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup / CA XOSoft™ WANSync Integration Now Available
A new integrated BrightStor ARCserve Backup / CA XOSoft WANSync bundle is now available. The BrightStor ARCserve Backup / WANSyncHA Bundle provides customers with the combined recovery management benefits of traditional backup with continuous data protection (CDP), replication, automatic failover and disaster recovery testing technologies. The integrated solution allows IT organizations to implement an easy-to-manage, comprehensive, and dependable recovery management solution tailored to protect information and keep it readily accessible when and where it is required.

The BrightStor ARCserve Backup/ WANSyncHA Bundle enables you to reduce your recovery time objectives to seconds and provides an unlimited number of recovery points from which to initiate the restore process. Backup windows can be eliminated. Since data capture occurs on a continual basis, the backup is always complete. There is no impact on the production server since all the backup functions are occurring on the replica server. The backup can be automatically tested against the application running on a replica server thus validating that the backup is recoverable and ensuring the rapid recovery or automatic failover of your critical business application.

CA Message Manager r11.5 Released
We are pleased to announce that CA Message Manager r11.5 is now available for Discovery and Mailbox Management for Exchange, Notes, and Web Access. Enterprise and Financial Services are still available in their current versions.

The latest release of CA Message Manager addresses the archiving needs of all departments and users in organizations worldwide. CA Message Manager helps organizations recognize the value of their email systems and address the complicated nature of an organization's messaging environment, resulting in a single system that achieves dramatic storage savings and provides powerful eDiscovery support and compliance retention management of email data.

This release of CA Message Manager adds the following new functionality to this existing industry leading solution:

  • Support for message capture of international languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and Danish
  • A Robust Novell GroupWise email capture agent that includes a policy management interface to selectively archive messages off of GroupWise mail servers (Post Offices)

General Information
BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup for Windows r11.5: How to Reset the caroot Password
If you have forgotten or lost your "caroot" password, you can reset this. See the instructions below:
  1. Open a command prompt on the server where you want to change/reset the caroot password.
  2. In the command prompt, browse to the drive where you have BrightStor ARCserve Backup installed (e.g. C:\Program Files\CA\...).
  3. Once in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup folder, type in the following: cstop
  4. This will stop all the BrightStor ARCserve Backup services that are running.
  5. When all services are stopped, open the Windows Explorer and browse to the folder:
    x:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Data\Discovery
    Here you will find a folder that has the name of your server.
  6. Rename this folder.
  7. Back in the command prompt, type in the following: cstart
  8. This will start the BrightStor ARCserve Backup services that were stopped in item 4.
  9. Still in the command, prompt type in the following: Authsetup/p "password"
    where "password" is what you want the new password to be.
  10. Close the command prompt and open BrightStor ARCserve Backup Manager with the new password.
