Advantage CA-Datacom Database Option for CICS Services 2.6

Relational Database Management Solution

Advantage CA-Datacom Database Option for CICS Services provides access to the high-performance data handling facilities of Advantage CA Datacom/DB Database for application programs designed to run under CICS. Advantage CA-Datacom Database Option for CICS Services also includes functions that allow the user to control online system resources and display status information online, and online tools for problem debugging and resolution.

Operating Environment

Advantage CA-Datacom Database Option for CICS Services is available on z/OS and OS/390.

Highlights:

  • Provides the interface from CICS application programs to the facilities of Advantage CA Datacom/DB Database.
  • Facilities are provided that allow the user to control the resources in his online environment. This includes user access to specific Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database tables, the handling of OPENs for User Requirements Tables (URTs), and security for the online environment.
  • The user can monitor the performance and efficiency of his online environment and specify changes to enhance performance characteristics.
  • A DBUG transaction allows the user to request interception of a transaction before and/or after a request is passed to Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database for servicing. This tool allows for quick resolution of logic problems in the user's application code.
  • The DBTS transaction allows the user to simulate a program's logic online by actually specifying and executing Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database commands.
  • Supports application programs on OS/390 systems running either above or below the 16-megabyte line.
  • Fully supports application program SYNCPOINT commands. All outstanding updates issued to Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database are committed at that time. If the transaction later abends and transaction backout has been specified, any updates since the last SYNCPOINT will be backed out.
  • Engineered to support multiple versions of CICS without requiring any special link-edits or source assemblies.
  • Supports COMMAND level programs running in the Link Pack Area (LPA)
  • Automatically detects when the Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database Multi-User Facility (MUF) has abended and performs the necessary activities to clean up outstanding requests and break the connection with MUF. When MUF is again available, the connection will automatically be re-established.
  • User exits are provided in support of Unicenter CA-SYSView Realtime Performance Management to allow gathering and subsequent display of data relevant to the performance characteristics of application programs calling Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database, and running in the CICS environment.
  • The capability is provided to abend a task whenever a user-specified number of requests to Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database have been issued by that task. This allows for termination of runaway programs that may be in a logic loop and using an inordinate amount of resources.

Advantage CA-Datacom Database Option for CICS Services Release 2.6 for OS/390 and z/OS

Currently Available - Generally Available (GA) Status

Major Enhancements:

  • Enhanced Debugging Support
The DBUG panels have been redesigned and debugging options have been extended to include the debugging of a specific remote terminal. This allows for the running of an application on one terminal while the DBUG displays for that program are shown on the terminal that issued the DBUG. Additionally, monitor-mode DBUG processing is now provided such that all Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database requests are intercepted and those meeting specified criteria issued by any program are routed to the terminal that issued the DBUG request.

  • Enhanced MRO-ISC Support
New commands are provided for support of the CICS MRO/ISC environment. The user now has the capability to monitor and control User Requirements Tables throughout all attached CICS systems. Information displayed is similar to that displayed by the "DBOC INQ=???" panel, but the new commands invoke displays which can be paged both forwards and backwards.

  • Auxiliary Trace Facility
When it is necessary to trace a large number of Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database request events, Advantage CA Datacom Database CICS Services Option now provides the capability to write the traced events to a separate sequential dataset. This allows capturing more history data than is possible when using the incore Trace Table.

  • Support for CICS 2.1 and Above
All modules comprising Advantage CA Datacom Database Option for CICS Services are now written to command-level CICS conformance. This, along with other internal modifications, allows the product to support the CICS 2.1 and above environments.

  • Enhanced Performance
Quantity of Resource Manager calls has been reduced to improve the performance of database requests.

  • Support Program Auto Install Function in CICS 4.1 and Above
Program auto install function for online user requirement table is supported in this release.

  • Allow User to Cancel an Active Task
This new function is provided to allow the user to use CEMT transactions to cancel a task that is waiting on response from Advantage CA-Datacom/DB Database Multi-User Facility.
