SupportConnect - CA Anti-Virus for the Enterprise CA Threat Manager for the Enterprise Important Notice

CA Anti-Virus for the Enterprise
CA Threat Manager for the Enterprise
Important Notice

Dear Valued CA Customer

The CA Threat Management team's first priority is providing you with a comprehensive enterprise security solution. We are committed to keeping your business running safe and secure.

Recently Microsoft posted a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 TechNet web posting on the Microsoft Exchange Server TechCenter. (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332342.aspx). This posting advised customers to exclude multiple directories, processes and file extensions from Anti-Virus scans.

We believe that the focus of this posting was system performance. While performance tuning is important, there needs to be a balance between performance and protection of system resources. Microsoft's recommended exclusions could lead to security exposures that might threaten the overall security posture of your environment.

For that reason, we are issuing this advisory regarding the recommendations in the "File-Level Antivirus Scanning on Exchange 2007 " technical note.

CA Threat Management MS Exchange 2007 Recommendations

The CA Threat Management team has compiled a more directed list of recommendations that focuses on both security and performance best practices.

The CA Threat Management team recommends excluding the following file extensions to optimize the MS Exchange 2007 performance:

*.chk

*.log

*.edb

*.jrs

*.que

*.lzx

*.ci

*.wid

*.000

*.001

*.002

*.dir
